Do You Sink Your Teeth into the Blog Post, or just grab a crumb or take a nibble!

By

Sink Your TeethPlease, please, please!!! For those of you who just throw something up on your post hoping to get some type of notice, STOP IT!!! Sink your teeth into your post. Put you into it!!! Otherwise, I, along with myriad others who do put our all into a post will not be stopping by to comment on whatever it is you are saying/not saying.

I am rarely at a loss of words, but today I am!!! In responding to Confused?comments on one of my posts, I found myself going to reciprocate, and what did I find? NOTHING about which to comment. Either it was something that had been copied in its entirety and posted or just had a bunch of useless information repeated for ten days in a row. For this type of a post, I am truly at a loss of anything to say. I refuse to say, "nice post," or "wow, very cool post you copied from the website," or "what do you think you are doing?" ;-)

Here, on Active Rain, we have such a great opportunity to showcase ourselves, our writing skills, our knowledge of our market, and hopefully get the attention of other professionals who will think of us as a "professional" and you blow it!!! I've heard mention of this before in other blog posts, but I'm seeing more and more of it as I go to reciprocate! Again, I say, STOP IT!!!

Okay, now I feel better. Even though I am a HUGE proponent of reciprocating, if you don't see my comment on your blog post, now you know why! I want to see more TEETH!!! Well, obviously, I can't put this in any of the positive groups, now can I? ;-)

Chuck, my point exactly......about the same home after home after home. Amazing what people will do for a point!

Rosemary, thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.

I'd like more important stuff in my posts too.  I must admit I like shorter posts because those that stretch out for pages wear me out.  I also feel tired when I have to skip so many of the links that are in posts. Keep them short and informative and funny is what I prefer.

Barbara, I think it's not that it has to be really IMPORTANT, just interesting to our readers. Whether it be to the readers on AR or our potential clients.....it's important to think that way - in my opinion. I'm all about short and to the point as well. ;-)

Hey Laura, teeth, teeth and more teeth. Some of the posts - written by those with 40,000 points, are amazing. I can see starting out with baby teeth, but by that many points, their incisors need to be in. ;-)

Terry- Great post.  I've been at Active Rain for 8 months now.  I've only written 20 entries.  I remember that in the very beginning, every blog that I entered....I would comment.  I just thought it was common courtesy.

Then I stopped doing it when I felt it just wasn't worth it or I really didn't have anything to say.

Now I am more selective.  If the headline grabs me, then I have made a commitment to actually write something down.  If I have to re-read, stop and think....come back, fine, then I'll do it.

I still feel guilty going to an entry and not leaving anything behind.  Maybe that is just me.

Quality is better than quantity.

I hope.

Douglas, my point exactly. After awhile we accumulate people we like to "read."  That does help to find plenty of things about which to comment. Quality is better!!! Commenting also helps you get known, but typically I go back to reciprocate....if there's nothing to comment upon, I leave. ;-)

Great point.  I am a newbie, and have been going through different blogs to get a feel for what is available and to find my passions to write about.  I have noticed that some posts seem to be less than thought provoking and others could be condensed or written in a series if they are toooo loooong.

Kathryn, smart woman. Being a newbie, it is especially important to look around and see what you like, who you like, subscribe to those you do.....and start your Active Rain career. It's true......many hours on here, but it's worth it. ;-)  Welcome to the Rain!!!

Teri, Thank you for the very kind response to my post about my very sick brother.  I just read this post and hope you weren't talking about me!  LOL.  Anyway, I feel like I am getting better at blogging since I am writing from my "heart" although I am NOT sinking my teeth in it..  Do you think my last few posts are getting better?  I felt a little uncomfrtable writing about my "sadness"  on my last post, but it was from my heart and how I feel and it did make me feel better about getting it off my chest.   Also, if you have time, could you go and look at my "I want my LTV post" written 3-23-08  and tell me  what you think. I really respect your opinion.  I am getting more comfortable with this, but I am also so new in the rain.

I have been concentrating on local post and some I have been able to "sink my teeth into" but sometimes I just write about an upcoming event and then add the needed graphics.  Well now I know if I don't get a comment I need to step up to the plate with my feelings about the topics.  ;-)

I love your lady in red and always have.

Teri, my pet peeve is members who post a whole series of blogs based on snippets from something we all have access to already, like a dictionary.

Vickie, how sweet of you to drop by. I will check out your post and let you know, BUT I thought your post about your brother was absolutely appropriate and seemingly well received. Our Active Rainers are a thoughtful and empathetic group. I was definitely NOT speaking about your post on this rant....I wouldn't have commented if I thought that. ;-)

Karen, thank you so much.....As you get known more and more, you will gain more and more subscribers who follow you around on the Rain. The more interesting, the better. Localism posts are great 'cause they bring you into your community - which, after all is what we're all about, huh? ;-)

Brian, yep I agree if their entire blog post includes the snippets about which you speak - but - sometimes we might like a quick link to something that we've missed?

Teri, the ones I'm referring to don't have links - they just include 4 or 5 definitions at a time, such as parts of a house or real estate terms...
