Some Presidential Facts.....

Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Legacy

This month is when we celebrate President's Day.  A day honoring the US Presidents, I found some fun facts from a neighborhood newsletter that I thought that I would share:

At the time of innauguration, George Washington had only one tooth.

James Madison is the first President to wear trousers as opposed to knee lenght breeches.

James Buchanan was nearsighted in one eye and far sighted in the other.  As a result he always cocked his head to the left.

While he was President, Ulysses S. Grant was arrested for riding his horse too fast and fined $20.

James K. Polk's wife did not allow card playing, dancing or drinking in the White House.

Benjamin Harrison was terrified of electric lights and would ask White House staff to turn them on and off for him.

Rutherford B. Hayes was the first President to use a telephone at the White House.  His phone number was 1.

Calvin Coolidge played "ding-dong ditch 'em", he would ring the White House doorbell, then run and hide.

Thomas Jefferson and John Adams were the only two Presidents to sign the Declaration of Independence.

I do hope that you enjoyed some of these tidbits, I can't imagine what would happen today if a Police Officer stopped the Presidential limo and gave him a speeding ticket!

I thought the fact about Ulysses S. Grant being ticketed for riding his horse too fast was astonishing!  Also, President Hayes being given the phone number "1" is intriguing.  In today's world of Twittering I suspect it would be "POTUS" (President of the United States).

Tom and Darcy, never knew that President Coolidge was such a goof ball!  Imagine if a president did that today - oh wait!  Nobody can ring the White House doorbell anymore - you can't get close to it.

Tony, Yes Thanks for the short but interesting Presidentail facts. I ke the one about Grant riding hios horse too fast and getting a fine. If I remember correctly Grant probably had a few too many beers before getting his speeding ticket!!

Great facts, and I am stuck on the fact that George Washington had one tooth.  I just saw a person in SB today at the Farmers Market with one tooth...and what a great phone number Hayes had.  Have a great weekend. A
