Thanks to this interpreter I closed the property.

Being fluent in Spanish should be such an asset in our business.  If I could speak Spanish I'm sure I could gain the confidence of our wonderful Hispanic families in Searcy Arkansas and White County Arkansas.

Recently I had this little country foreclosure to sell.  It needed to be finished.  A young Hispanic man came in to see me about it and upon inspecting it he said that he or his family wanted to buy it.  He went to the bank and didn't have the strength to buy it but his brother in another state did have the assets to purchase.

Visiting with the man seated in front of me was difficult but then visiting on the phone with the brother was even harder.  Both men spoke some English but were far from fluent in English.

I called in an interpreter.  This lovely lady grew up in California with Hispanic parents who very wisely spoke only Spanish at home to her with the theory that she'd be learning English in school but she needed the Spanish language also.  It has worked.  She speaks fluent Spanish and has the most trusting personality.  She was able to help me with the clients by explaining the contract, making phone calls to the brother, and she came to the close of the house today.  Her name is Denise Flores and I have her permission to brag on her and put her picture in my blog.

If you find yoursDenise Floreself in need of help with a contract she'd be a great helper.

Hi Barbara.

I was born in Los Angeles, California and my parents were born in Mexico and are now American Citizens.  When I was working in logistics and transportation I began talking more Spanish with temporary associates while fellow peers laughed at my broken spanish.  Over the period of 5-years my Spanish been pretty polished. My Spanish is not formal, it's more casual and Hispanics and Latins feel more at easy when talking to me.  Now I look back and I am glad that I hung out with only Spanish speaking associates. Because, I have heard agents loosing the meat and potatos in a translation.  I am glad that I don't have to struggle as much.

Great Post.

This is a very good point.  We get calls asking for Spanish speaking agents sometimes and it always help to have someone fluent in Spanish available.  I am glad that you found someone and that it worked out for you.  Congratulations on your closing!

JSierra, thanks for your comments.  You are so fortunate to be able to speak fluent Spanish.  I wish I could speak another language!

Sarah, don't know where you are from but keep her in mind if you ever need help.

Hi Barbara, I have a Broker who I refer transactions to for my Spanish speaking clients if the client does not have a friend or family member who is available to interpret.  I like using the Broker because I am confident that she also understands the professional issues associated with the real estate process.  It's important to have assistance when dealing with a language barrier.  Thanks for a good post.

It's never too late to learn a different language.

I have been working on Spanish myself but so far I'm not to good. I bought cd's that you can run on your computer that uses allot of visual teaching techniques.

I have had lots of wonderful Spanish speaking clients and I wish I could actually talk to them and not through an interpreter. This is a personal goal for me!

Lola, this lady has real estate experience and that's another reason she was invaluable.

It is too late to learn another language for some of us, Jesse.

Jennifer, you may still have time to learn another language.  Good luck with that goal.
