General Paint Recommendations for Any Seller

By
Home Stager with Prudential Ambassador / Ross Designs, LLC

Often times my clients (real estate agents) have made upgrade/improvement suggestions to their sellers before I am scheduled to stage their home for sale.  One of the most common suggestions is neutralize wall coverings/finishes - whether it is to remove wallpaper/borders and repaint or repaint over bold colors.  Listed below is a something I put together at an agent's request that lists two types of Sherwin Williams Paint colors for the three different types of trim most commonly used in homes.

Neutral Paint Suggestions for Home Staging/Selling

The best way to select the perfect paint color when selling or decorating is to have a professional select the color in the rooms to be painted.  When this is not feasible in the interest of time, the colors listed below have worked well for many home sellers.  A seller can't go wrong with neutral colors.

1). Rooms with white painted trim:

               - SW #6142 "Macademia"

               - SW #6141 "Softer Tan"

2). Rooms with oak trim:

            - SW #7036 "Accessible Beige"

            - SW #7529 "Sand"

3). Rooms with dark trim:

            - SW #7526 "Maison Blanche"

            - SW #6148 "Wool Skein "

* For a 25% discount, use the Ross Designs pricing at Sherwin Williams. Use the ProMar 200 Brand in an Eggshell finish.  Sherwin Williams can color match any color from any other paint manufacturer.

**Recommend purchasing a small sample container of the selected paint and test it in the rooms to be painted before investing larger quantities of paint.

*** To see these colors before purchasing, you can stop at any Sherwin Williams store and ask the staff to help you find the color swatch, or you can look at their website (this is not a good indication of actual color).  To look at the colors on the website, go to http://www.sherwinwilliams.com/, select "site map" at the very bottom, click on "Color Visualizer" and type the name of the color in the "find paint" area.

Tori Great idea! to give this to a listing agent as a quick guide. I love to use the Macademia myself it's so universal.

Much Success,

Amber

Tori, fantasic information!  This just demonstrates the importance of why it is important to have a professional stager on the team and why I suggest sellers talk to you before doing any painting.

Tori,

What a wealth of information for your clients. You've done your research and have the proven ability to back up your words. A good example are your Old Market Loft remodels. I would hire you if you moved back to California :)

Nice photo of my grandson, humm,  wonder who took it? :)

Steve - glad I could help. I am full of information (some useful, some not so much!)

Kathy - I think it really helps clients when we can give them very specific product suggestions and directing people to SW will never be a bad choice!

Amber - I have since used Macademia in a couple of rooms in my own house, too.  One of my clients painted her ENTIRE house in it and loved it!  Had a successful sale, too.

David - I very much enjoying being part of your team.

Mom - thanks for taking a look at my new "blog".  To AR Members: Don't worry, she won't comment very often :-)

Thanks everyone for your time - Tori

Hi Tori -

I love it when other stagers give color favorites. I have used Macademia and my client loved it. Will check out these other colors you suggest. I also like to recommend paint which I have seen full blown in a house rather than just a swatch. Thanks for sharing.

Great selections.  I do this too but warn that lighting and furnishings will affect colors in the homes so it is best if I do a consultation before they decide on a color.  That usually results in a consult and a better result for the client.  Love it when they call the day before or the day the painter is to start!

Tori, Thanks for sharing!  A popular color in this area is Tobacco Road.  I always use a stager on my listings, and this post brings to mind a home that I listed last Fall.  We couldn't BELIEVE the difference after the rooms were painted.  The sellers almost decided to stay, they loved it so much!  Isn't it great that something as inexpensive as a gallon paint makes such a huge difference?  (If it's the right color, of course!)
