What's in a Name?

I just finished a post by   Steve Crossland entitled
Does a Politically Incorrect Street Name Affect Home Value in Austin TX?

It is interesting to see what can really stir the mind of a buyer.  It's not just whether a name is PC, weird or overly soothing.  Some are entertaining, some cute, some are the type where you could say " I wish I thought of that."  I grew up in Pennsylvania with town names like Intercourse and Blue Ball (DON'T censor me - they are really town names you will find on a map).  So how can you not have a sense of humor about these things?

Regarding PC, we have a mountain and a freeway here in Phoenix that was named Squaw Peak (a very popular climbing and hiking spot - the mountain, not the freeway).  There were attempts to change it a few times as the name is considered derogatory by Native Americans.  It was changed to Piestewa Peak (and Freeway) after the first female Native American to die in active duty armed services over in Iraq.  Yet there was still an uproar over the name change.  PC swings both ways.

But on a lighter note, this is really what I want to cover.  Just north of Phoenix and Scottsdale, is a wonderful little town called Carefree, AZ.  Keep in mind that the following includes all real names of streets in Carefree.  You'll want to move there just for that!:

I really love to Whileaway (Rd) my time on Leisure Lane.  It makes me feel so Peaceful (Pl.) when I stroll down Lazy Lane so Nonchalant (Ave) and Carefree (Dr).  When I grow too Tranquil (Trail) it's probably because I was on Dream Street - it makes you feel so Serene (St).  Never Mind (Trail)  that I feel I feel so Lucky (Ln), It must be because I am on Easy Street.  So, when I sit down on Rocking Chair Road and look out at the beautiful desert scenery it leaves me Breathless (Rd).  If you feel tired, you might Huff N Puff (Pl) on over to meet me at the intersection of Ho and Hum Roads.

Now don't you want to move there?  Just don't move to Bloody Basin Road or Long Rifle Road or some of the other gun named roads (this is the wild west after all).  Talk about juxtaposition.

I wonder which sell faster?

Adam - you forgot about when we were working on-site for a builder!

We had a street named, "South Butte Road".  If I had a dime for every time someone mispronounced, "Butte", I'd be RICH!

Grade school kids LOVED it - unless they lived on it!
