Blogging Points

By

Okay one more question on this points thing.  I have been somewhat addicted to Active Rain ~ yes I have been up late at night and early in the morning surfing around.  I've found some great tools and info as well as some great success stories and encouragements during such a down market.

Heres my question for all you heavy hitters and point getters out there.  Do you get points based on the content of your blog?  Or based on the comments you receive?  I know you receive 200 points per blog - I just can't figure out why my total blogging points isn't a factor of # of blogs X 200.

At the very least answer my question and get your 25 points for commenting!

Sunriver...what a great place to work!  Scroll down on the left of your home page and look at your "Points Summary."  It'll break down all your points for you.

Some blogs score more than 200 if they're given a higher relevance, but I'm not sure how that's determined.  I always get more points for posts with many photos.

I think it is sometimes based on how many comments and responses it gets.  Usually if nobody comments then I don't get any extra points.

I don't think it's tied to photos but the AR gurus probably aren't going to expose their secrets ;-)

I'm pretty sure it's tied to the number of comments received, if any. So there....I just helped you get a smidge more than 200 :-)

Kelly  The more comments, the more points.  "Relevance" is determined by the reader - anyone can flag your post as "featured" in which case you can earn bonus points.  Keep in mind that when you have questions like this someone before you has asked or blogged about it.  Searching for answers within the 'Rain is the best way to acquaint yourself with other members.  When you find something that interests you, comment and you can get more points too  :)  Have fun!

Kelly - You get 200 points for a blog of 50 words or more that is your original content - then the more comments you receive the more points you get - for that post - you can post 10 blogs per week for points - you can post more but you only get credit on points for the first 10 - then you comment on other folks blogs and can receive 25 points for each comment up to 10 per day - when you invited Brad - and he accepted - funny how he accepted his' wifes invite but not mine (grin) you got bonus points and now you will get 10% of his point total too - so all of your invitees gain you points.... then you have the contests - they will gain you points - and the comment about featured posts may be right - but I have had featured posts gain me well over 500 points - to have a featured post does not require any special thing.... sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn't - the glory is the google juice - but I love seeing your points go up.... cause it makes my points go up too...

Kelly - it looks like you have all the answers to you question.  I think that watching your "points summary" is the best way for you to determine where the highter points are coming from!  Great job and keep up all the blogging!

I opened this to find out the secret... I really don't know how the points past 200 works. I just try to post something that interests me and hopefully it generates something. I like to do a mix of "giving back" posts and localism. It's the low attention getting localism posts that have brought me the clients.

So many points' factors go into a post. First you do get 200 points for posts over 50 words, if you don't go over 10 per week, then no 200 points. But, if you write a great post and you are over your 10 posts per week you still get points for comments.

Now, lets say you write the best local post ever, you can get 200 bonus points for getting featured on localism or if you write a great post just for Activerain members and not featured on localism, you get an extra 100 points plus the comment points.

So, in a way you do get more points for content, because if you write a great post you get lots of comments and also featured points.

So keep writing and earning those points and enjoy what you are doing.

Kelly, great question. I'm reading all the answers to get more  informed myself. It makes more sense but I don't think I'll ever get all of this!!! :):)
