By Popular Demand: Announcing The Ugliest "For Sale" Sign Contest

By
Home Stager with Prudential Ambassador / Ross Designs, LLC

I wrote a blog last week about a very unattractive "For Sale" sign in my neighborhood. I received many comments of similarly ugly For Sale sign spottings and it was suggested that we have an "Ugliest For Sale Sign" contest.  Here goes!

I am not sure what the official rules should be; I guess since it's my post then I get to be the final judge? Nah, that wouldn't be fair.  I will reformat the blog and open it to the group for judging. Let's hold the contest open for one week - submissions accepted on this blog through June 17th, midnight CST (how's that for sounding official?).

What will the momentous award be, you ask? The winner will receive - A GREAT BIG ANNOUNCEMENT ON AR, POSTED IN SEVERAL GROUPS. Yea for you!

How's that for incentive?  No gas cards, no gift certificates to restaurants or a pot of cash, just the knowledge that you had the distinct pleasure of finding and photographing the most hideous For Sale sign any of us have seen.

P.S.  Here's the sign that started it all

So, as I was reading about the contest, I thought "Ohh, how fun!  I will have to keeep my eyes open for ugly signs."  Then, I scrolled down and saw Karens's picture...   Guess I'll just stay home.

Karen's sign reminds me of some similar ones I saw in New Orleans about a year after the hurricane. Along with wrecked boats still piled against each other in a marina on the lake. The houses still had dirty water marks about three feet up from the foundation.  Too sad to take photos....

Kathy - that was a tragic situation, not one to make fun of.

Well, this is a twist on the word "ugly", but after being connected to the real estate industry since 1977, and NEVER seeing the market so bad, to me...THIS is ugly:

Scary to think that things are so tight in this market  we can find such sad looking signs :[   I've seen more than enough for sale sounds around here, but I look forward to seeing whatcha all come up with. Good luck, the competition already looks fierce!

Elaine -- you are correct, that is a little sad. Definitely screams "We need to sell!  Come take advantage of us!"

Ronelle - looking forward to seeing what you are able to find.

Okay guys - I was alerted to this contest today.  Sure enough - we were out riding around and ran into these beauties!  Now, you would THINK that with these DIRECTIONALS that the ones in front of the house would have flashing lights, etc....Nope, just a simple black and white FSBO.  Um, what is "wholesale"?

I have been ON THE LOOK OUT for ugly signs since you posted this and oddly enough, have not seen a single one!   I know I've seen some really bad ones in the past...it figures I can't find one now!

Just a quick reminder - contest is open until tomorrow (Wednesday) night!  The winner will receive a single property website from James Cox at Seven Design Studios.  We have a couple of great entries already but I am sure there are some other worthy contenders out there!

Those signs are great... I'll keep an eye out today as I'm out and about.  There are usually some pretty bad FSBO signs.

I like the one [painted on the side of the house.  They should have also wrote: "SLASH IT SALE" like the car lots.

Tori, what fun AND how sad.  Another reason to always have the camera close at hand.  I'll be looking but it will be difficult to complete with Karen, as usual.

Not at this is necessarily "ugly", but I think it's ugly to have sooo much sign graffiti.  Who is a consumer supposed to call?  There are 3 phone numbers along with a web address...
