Public Perception

By
Real Estate Agent with CENTURY 21 Capital Realty Inc., Brokerage

I recently participated in a course, where the perception of real estate sales representatives in the eye of the public, was discussed at great length.

The image one projects to the general public is extremely important. Not only does it reflect on the individual, but also on the Brokerage they represent, the Company and the whole industry in general. But I'm not talking about individual taste in clothing or the make and model of car we drive. The image I'm talking about is the one much more difficult to alter.

In a recent conversation, one friend revealed that he wouldn't use the services of a REALTOR® when he purchased his next home, because he was not confident in the knowledge and expertise of his last REALTOR®. Another, felt that the REALTOR® was too pushy. Evidently, there is room for improvement, and we can only do this one satisfied client at a time. Be knowledgeable in the profession, understand the recent trends in our community, and be respectful of everyone you deal with. These are only some of the things we need to do to deliver exceptional service and build strong relationships with the public.

REALTORS® have a duty to treat everyone fairly and honestly, and an obligation to maintain and improve the image of our profession. If given the opportunity to educate others about what it is that we do, it's our responsibility to do so, and we must act on it.

I'd be happy to hear about your prior experiences (+ or -) with REALTORS®, email me at szabolcs.pall@century21.ca

Thanks for your comments, Szabolcs.  Unfortunately, like many service industries, there are many who are more concerned about closing a deal than serving the client.  I wish there was some kind of test that could be administered that would weed out those of us who are just in it for US.  But that would just open up a whole new set of problems.  All we can do is set the example and be a positive influence on others.

Hello Szabolcs and welcome to the Active|Rain community.

You've made a big step to distinguish yourself from the majority of real estate licensees by blogging about real estate. So I'm inviting you to join an active|rain group comprised of of your fellow blogger Canadian REALTORS® , the Canada, eh group - http://activerain.com/groups/Canada.

When I login on ActiveRain.com, I always check the Canada, eh group first to read the Canadian perspective since Canadian bloggers are so much easier to find on the group home page.

And please include any of your posts with a Canadian angle by also posting them to the group.
(although please no postings about properties for sale in the group)

Should you decide to join the Canadians, then let me say "Welcome!"
