Where has the time gone

Real Estate Broker/Owner with L. J. Good Real Estate

A recent contact through active rain ask me the question.... "where has the time gone"  The note had come from my sister that I only see at funerals, it seems.  Her question came on the heels of a visit with an old friend just yesterday. I drove up the river road on my way back across the mountains... he was sitting on the porch so I stopped.  He didn't know who I was when I first walked up to the home-made porch that was attached to the front of the old mobile.  "Lonnie Good... is that you"?  Yah, it's me.  How ya doing?  I'm fine how 'bout yourself?

After a little chit chat he asked, "how old are you now?"  I responded and returned the question, he divulged that he was now 85 years old.  He said, ya know mom went to be with the good Lord 4 years ago, she was 104 years old.  I told him that I'd seen it in the paper.

I told him that I was a real estate broker, we both laughed when I told him that "People acually think they own this stuff"  He said, we only use it for a short while.

He went on to tell me of all the problems since her passing.  There's a little postage size lot that he lives on.  It's where she lived and died.  Seems she left it to all her kids, equally.  They can't decide between themselves how much it's worth and what should be done with it, or/and the two remaining people living on it.

It was so sad to see this great little man having spent his entire life smiling and helping people to be tangled in such a web at this point in his life.  But he had promised his mom that he'd keep the taxes paid on the property... and so without any help from those that want their cut, he keeps his promise, because that's the kind of man he is...   And he sits on the front porch of the mobile and waives at the neighbors as they pass by.
