Raising Boys into Men

By
Real Estate Agent with Heather Roda Broker

Raising Boys into men in this uncertain world. I seem to be the unofficial neighborhood mom, which is just fine by me. But I'm surprised at how I've had to teach other kids to offer to help carry in the groceries, even for their own mothers. My boy will hold the door for you and they are pretty good with their please and thank yous. Now don't get me wrong, they on occasion back talk and they hate chores of any kind although they do them, sometimes with several reminder. lol. My kids will always say hi to a parent they recognize, I wish I could say the same for some of the other kids I know. I think some important things are giving your child love and respect and also some boundaries. My kids also know they can discuss anything with me no matter what the subject, Trust is also Huge. The most important thing is to raise them to have faith in God and to always pray for them.

I have teenage girls, who were taught to have manners very early and I'm always reinforcing their friends when they visit.  I believe most of their friends have been taught, but when they are with their friends, they forget to use their manners.  As parents, it's our job to reinforce the world's children on society's rules. ;>)

HI LISA!

I have all boys and if I had to do it without my husband, I don't know how I'd manage.  We're doing a good job so far, they're wonderful kids!  Sounds like you are also!

All the best,

Lisa ~ Congratulations on a job well done. It is most difficult to raise children in this most ungodly world of ours.

Lisa - this is definitely a fun part of being a mom...I have 2 wonderful little boys... a 3 week old and a 3 yr old and loving every morning I get to wake up to them.  I look forward to the day I can see them transform into wonderful young men.

Lisa, You are describing one of the most important of all Christian virtues, raising up your children to follow the Lord. God Bless You

I echo the sentiments from above. They are products of their environment. And you have taught them well.

Praise be to the Lord for placing you in the path of all of those boys, who can learn christian acts of kindness to others... through you.

Lisa, it sounds like you are doing a great job with your boys.  I do worry about some of the parenting that is going on today.

Our son joined the Army 4 years ago straight out of high school and I must say that experience turned him from a boy in to a man.  He was supposed to be getting out this next month but he got the stop loss and is presently on his second tour of Iraq.  I am very proud of him as he is taking it like a man. He does not plan on staying with the Army but in the mean time he just made Sergeant.

That's a wonderful thing you're doing.  Some parents just don't have a clue.
