Old Rodger's Hospital in Searcy AR. A view from the past.

Rodgers hospital

This photo of the old Rodgers Hospital on Woodruff Street in Searcy AR was taken by my friend Paula when she was doing a project for 4H as a youngster.   Look at the age of the cars!  It was owned by Porter Rodgers, Sr., a physician who was loved in the city.  I made a trip to the hospital late in the evening once because I had a daughter who was ill.  Dr. Rodgers was there and took care of her.  I guess he was making his rounds because surely he didn't get out in the packed snow just to see her.  We were having a rare snowstorm.  But according to his reputation, he probably would have done so.

This hospital closed down when a new one was built.

Barbara, I did that photography class also.  I still remember getting that white ribbon.  I think my photography has improved since then though but I don't have the ribbons to go by any longer.

Barbara,

That is a great photo I remember getting my finger stitched up there. Dr Rodgers stitched it up for me. I was about 6 years old. Wasnt it a green color on the outside. Then about 1981 it was turned in to a spook house for charity that we went to. Ask Mary about that spook house she has a funny story on it. Anyway great post!!

Elizabeth, friends are supplying them.  I had some great ones emailed to me today.  I'm glad you like them.

Tinker, thanks for telling me about your finger stitching.  That was something you'll never forget!  I don't remember the color and I don't remember a spook house being there.  We'll let Mary straighten us out.

I used to work at Central Arkansas General Hospital, but before that I worked at the old White County Hospital.  Dr. Rodgers Sr. was still alive at that time, and I really enjoyed the stories and the sites and sounds of the city then.  I wish it could have remained like it was back then.  Searcy is a great place to live and raise a family.  I miss it so much!  I am too far north and miss all my old friends in the Searcy Area.  Thanks for the wonderful pictures.

Betty, thanks for commenting on my blog.  Keep watching and perhaps I can show you some more of your old landmarks!  If you have anything to share let me know and I may be able to post it on my blog also.

Wow! I was born at Rodgers Hospital in 1953 and Dr. Rodgers delivered me. My grandparents lived across the street. The picture had to be taken in their yard. Russ

Russell, the hospital was still operating when I got to Searcy in 1967.  Is your old house still standing?  The young girl who took this picture might have been a friend and in your yard!!

Jerry, just right click and save this picture.  You may find others on these blogs that you want and that's fine with me.  People have shared the pictures in appreciation of Searcy's history so I'm glad you've found them.  Dr. Rodgers was in that Kiwanis picture, if you noticed.

Whit, tell your best friend that if he hears strange sounds in the night they may be friendly ghosts from the old hospital.  LOL
