Committing To Change The World One Day At A Time

By

Padded CellIf someone came up to you and asked if your were "committed" is that a good thing?

If you're headed to the asylum, maybe not so. In Real Estate work, other endeavors, in our family, with our friends, with our goals, commitment is actually a VERY good thing.

With the asylum, your new home might just be a padded cell.

Bacon and Eggs

With commitment I harken back to an old story about the bacon and eggs you may have on your breakfast plate on Sunday morning after church.

Now think of those two tasty foods. One comes from a chicken (the eggs) the other from a pig (the bacon).

You might say as far as commitment level the chicken showed interest. Now the pig. The pig is the special one. There was commitment!!

So if anyone ever calls you a pig in your life keep that story in the back of your mind and smile and say thank you very much.

Holding Hands

Commitment takes hard work. Some things in life are just that way. There are many things we can be committed to and they may change in the various phases of our life. Parents, children, husband or wife or significant other, friends, family, goals, work, fitness, God, or even a hobby.

People like committed people. You are a person of your word. Your actions go with your words. A committed person is a person of good character. If I were hiring someone to work for me I would want someone who is committed to me. If I want a best friend in my life I want them committed to me. If I were to be a best friend to someone I would commit to them my all. Committed people have unwavering dedication to family, friends, work, God, or a goal. Their head and heart are on the same page. They stay focused on what they are dedicated to.

A music fan came up to the famous pianist Van Cliburn after a magnificent concert once and said, "I would give my life to be able to play piano like that." Van Cliburn replied, "I DID."

Abraham Lincoln said this about commitment: "Commitment is what transforms a promise into reality....It is making time when there is none. Coming through time after time after time....the power to change the face of things."

If you want to be a difference maker in life, be a person of commitment. Single handedly you will change the world.

Debe: Hopefully your other associates won't have too many flaky clients. I could rest in a padded cell for awhile. It might actually be comfortable and quiet.

Mara: Soy bacon is probably much better for you without the Sodium Nitrite. I know you are a commitment kind of person so this just reinforces that you are on the right track.

Hi Gary,  I am amazed at the the power of commitment.  If we don't stand for something, we will fall for anything!

Hi Dan: It's like having a compass set on North and following that direction NO MATTER WHAT. You can't deviate if you stay on course with conviction.

Gary,

I have had it said of me that I am committed (to what I do) and I have also had it said to me that I should be committed (padded cell).  I committed to my wife almost 43 years ago when I said  "I DO" come Sept. it will be 43 years and still moving along.  Some might say that being committed leads one to be committed. :-)

Don: Congratulations on the 43 years and I think I understand getting committed by being committed. Sometimes all that focus can make you nutty but in a good way.

Yvette: Wow you had to apply commitment to eating habits. That one takes a lot of discipline and upfront planning. They say take all the processed foods (boxes) out of your kitchen and only shop at the grocery store the outside aisles, produce, meat, dairy. Glad you have the commitment thing down in other areas of your life.

Gary:  Commitment is what separates a great agent from a mediocre one.  To have an agent that is committed to meeting your real estate needs is a great thing.  There is a story in our neighborhood about a lady who bought a house (after making repairs to it to get her loan funded) from a bank.  Turns out, the wrong bank sold it to her.  The supposed owner was evicted by the bank that actually owned the home and the agent didn't get paid. Rather than help this client out and either work something out with the new bank or find her another home, the agent was only committed to the payday that didn't happen, and fired the client.  I heard that and couldn't believe it!!  It's not the client's fault!!  But the agent was not committed to helping her...only helping herself.

Chris Ann: I am just so glad in the world and in your area of Virginia we have committed and ethical agents like you around to offset those other agents you spoke of. I agree that a committed agent makes for a great REALTOR too. Thanks for applying commitment in your work and all that it brings to our profession.

The C word is a big one.  It cannot happen without support and love from our Father, family and friends. I love the photo of the hands intertwined, their fingers make a heart.  Beautiful post!

Cathy: Support and love are essential. I didn't notice the interlocking heart with the fingers. Very observant on your part.

Christine: Thanks. I keep scribbling and something ends up out there....  : )

I love your blog, Gary. And I totally get commitment because I demand it of others in business and am often disappointed. 'Course, those people don't end up on my A Team. :)

Few days ago I landed a client who had been emailing me for a while about problems with an offer. I try to help others, even if they aren't working with me and there's nothing in it for me because I believe in what goes around comes around. So, this buyer finally sends me an email asking me to work with him, and he said, "Hello my new BFF." Which made me chuckle. But that's the service and performance the public expects from us and deserves.

Love the quote Gary, of couse you know by now I love famous quotes so thanks. I read this post and thought about all the social networks I have joined, am I committed? Nah not to the majority of the ones I have joined, yes to AR and my own blog. I've set up triibes last night, pretty cool lots of AR folks there we will see where it goes.

Elizabeth: That was a great example for us of what goes around comes around. Your helpfulness was rewarded in its due time.

Pam: I'm never going to live down this pig line. Committed? Good. Pig, what is really going on in Pam's head? LOL. Glad you like Lincoln quotes.

Missy: Commit to the things that work for you, but try different things. I think you have exactly the right approach.
