Saturday Sojourn...No Rain...Painting Weather!!!

By
Title Insurance with Patriot Land Transfer, Inc.

With a western facing garage, it is necessary to plan on painting garage doors early AM while the sun is rising from the east and the nice cool shade provides ideal cover from the summer August heat...

And so, bright and early, Dad and three sons set out to accomplish the fete and do an admirable job in the process...

At the ages of 10, 12 & almost 14, there is still much to learn and much to be taught about painting, fixing, cleaning, and generally efficient good work habits...

We come up with a 'game plan', go over the prep work, assign tasks, get out equipment, and by 8:30 AM we're into it...eight hands, eight feet, and four heads...

Who will tire first...who will run out of steam...who will lose their enthusiasm...who needs to be closely supervised...who can be trusted to work alone...rhetorical questions which are important but don't need to be answered here...!

Each one of those propositions developed, but by 12:30 PM we had both garage doors painted (2 coats), all the surrounding trim (2 coats), one basketball pole wire brushed and painted, and one ornamental driveway pole light painted...

Only one lasted with me to the end...Jared, my 10 year old...

So he and I hopped into the car, drove around the block, and admired a job well done as we approached the 'staging area'...

Oh, and by the way, we cleaned up everything, put all the equipment and tools back where they belong, and headed for the showers...

Now we can kick back and watch some summer olympics and baseball...and maybe blog a little...!

Fran, I love how your work crews are so organized, get out early, and get the job done. The biggest thing I like is you have the reward system like the Olympics or something else to kick back and do afterwards. You are living great examples for your kids. The 10 yr old's the tough one.

Fran- I love the way your family turns everything into an event to be celebrated. I agree the best investment of all is time spent with your kids and grandkids. These are the times to remember!

Barbara,

You should be around at one of these family 'work parties'...all kinds of dynamics going on including teasing, arguing, fooling around, taunting, bragging, and oh yes, some work getting done and the family 'drawing closer'????? LOL, Thanks,   Fran

Fran-  What a great lesson you're teaching your boys about responsibility and a the pride of a job well done.  Their wives will thank you one day!!!

Fran what a great story to share.  I like the way you have your job so methodically laid out...It reminds me of my own father...nothing was left to chance.  What a great way to instruct your children in the responsibilities in life...even if your 10 year old was the only one standing at the close of business.  Way to go!

Becky: I should start praying for their wives right now!!! LOL

Jim: I sense that 'the clean up' aspect of work is vastly ignored...hence the emphasis for my kids!!!

Barbara: :^)

Thanks,   Fran

I enjoy doing projects with my 13 year old. Although she always gets disinterested within a half an hour and starts complaining about wanting to do other things. Not sure how you keep up the morale...
