Picking Marionberries in Vancouver Washington
Here we go again, Mark goes off on a tangent that has nothing to do with real estate in Vancouver Washington. Or does it?*
The weather has been great here in Vancouver Washington.
Blue skies. Warm temps. The only thing that could possibly make it better is that my kids have come up from California to visit me! Perfect timing for the weather as we are having a great Vancouver summer.
The trick for me when the kids are in town is keeping them entertained. At 7 and 11 years old, they can be quite a handful when they get bored. It can also be rather expensive to try to entertain them with the traditional methods; movies, lunches at restaurants, amusement parks, etc. Although we did a few of the pay to play sites in town (Clark County Fair, Kidsclub, and OMSI) I decided that more wholesome activities might be just as much fun and considerably less expensive.
I would have never guessed that it might be as simple as picking berries. Anyone who has ever visited Vancouver Washington probably knows that we have a lot of berries. Heck, they grow like weeds on the side of the road just about anyplace you go. They literally infest the whole of Vancouver. Thorn bushes during the bulk of the year but they are beautiful berry bushes right now.
So I pack up the kids to take them to my "Secret Spot." My secret spot is unbelievable. The biggest, ripest, blackest berries in Clark County just dripping off the vine. Of course any adventure is much more exciting if you have a secret spot to go to. Who wants to pick berries over off the side of a dusty road in Fruit Valley. Nobody! You have to have a "Secret Spot." Mine is right across the street from the entrance to the park at Vancouver Lake. Shhhhh, don't tell anyone.
So we park the car, pile out, distribute bowls and start picking. An hour later, with about 5 pounds of berries, we load up the car with our treasure and head off to Minute Mart to buy some vanilla ice cream. I love the summer in Vancouver Washington!
*Random blogs tie in with Vancouver Washington real estate! I love Vancouver Washington and as a real estate agent, I get to share that with a lot of new people. You never can tell what will bring someone to Vancouver Washington and cause them to use us as their real estate agent. It might be the berries!
