Any New Safety Issues?

By

I was just wondering f there were any new safety issues that Realtors have had that are out of the ordinary to look out for while holding an open house or while listing an owner occupied home. I know the basics..For example: Don't leave medicine in the prescription medication in medicine cabinet (Drug addicts look for pain meds., etc.).. I was just wondering if anyone knew of anything out of the ordinary to look out for.Thank you in advance for any tips.

I don't do open houses just for those reasons, also, we have a couple of murders at open houses here.

I would advise your seller to remove all jewelry, meds, guns, anything of value and put off premise.

Then sit the open with a friend....do the buddy system. These idiots are smart now a days and talk to the Realtor while someone scams the upstairs.

Above all BE ALERT!

Karen,

Thank you for responding. I heard of some isues where people were doing that type of thing as far as theft.

I was just wondering if there were any other scams or concerns I should be aware of. Thanks again and have a great holiday weekend!!

Also, some more tips:

If you showing the property always make sure you walk behind the customes. Also adopt in your office a code system. If you feel that situation might get dangerous, call the office and ask something like "Sara, I think I left my RED folder on the desk" You can say whatever you want as long as you mention RED. And stay on the phone. Your partners in the office know in what house you are in, or at least they should. And if you think that the situation is fine, you can say "Oh, Sara, I totally forgot I put that file in the GREEN folder" or something containing word GREEN. We use that in our office.

Natalie,

Thank you for the tip. I think I will utilize that when I do my next open house. I typically never call the office because 99.9% of my work is done from home. However, my spouse would be willing to take the call and be available during any open house.

Thanks again for the tip!
