Southeast Gas Shortage Hits Home in Aiken as Gulf Coast Prepares for Ike.

Lines at the local gas pumps all the way to the street this evening due to reports of a gas shortage in the Southeastern US. Apparently it started sometime earlier today with some TN gas stations running out of gas. While coming home tonight it was very apparent that the panic had reached Aiken, SC.

Every gas station filled with customers waiting to fill their tank. Some stations rationing the gas and only allowing customers to purchase 10 gallons/purchase. Plastic bags covering many pump heads and prices are soaring.

I am hearing from friends as I type that some local stations are already up over $4/gallon if they have any at all and it's expected to hit $5/gallon before morning. Could be rumor or politically contrived, and I certainly don't want to be a panicmonger, but just wanted to keep everyone informed.

Check out the news story covering the gas shortage in the upstate SC.

Thanks for the heads up, Christie.  I heard on the news this evening that the gulf states are already looking at $5 WHOLESALE gasoline, so you know retail is going to be higher.  Whether that will translate beyond the gulf states remains to be seen.

Thanks Peach for commenting. I am curious as to know what is going on in other parts of the State and the SE in general. It was a MAD HOUSE here in Aiken tonight. Two of my friends actually had to go to three different gas stations before finally finding one that was not "out" of gas. Crazy stuff. I wish everyone the best. Please let us know what is going on where you are in regards to this.

Hi, Here in Gaffney, SC a lot of stations are out but the ones that do have gas are charging $4.49 a gallon. The owners of the gas stations are saying that gas companies told them it would be 2 to 3 weeks before they would be able to deliver any more gas even if the hurrican didn't do any damage.
