Can You Name that Bank?

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker United, Realtor

Here we go again!  Maybe we should make light of the situation and start a TV game show called, Name that Bank.

Back in the eighties, most all of the banks changed names at least three times before they settled into one that would stay afloat.  I saw on the front page of the Houston Chronicle  that Washington Mutual (WaMu) was seized last night and most of its assets were purchased by JPMorganChase.

Washington Mutual is my bank. So, I can make light of the situation. The reason for the title? Well' back in 1985, when I was eighteen, I opened a checking account at San Jacinto Savings and Loan.  I have never moved that bank account, but in the ten years that followed the bank name on my checks changed 5 times.  Washington Mutual was by far the longest lasting name.

Well, apparently for the moment I'm a JPMorganChase account holder. I wonder what the next bank name will be?

Mary, I recall the same thing in the Dallas area from the 1980's with all the savings and loans turning into banks with about five name changes. Seems like something similar is happening again.

I guess you've been a Chase customer for quite a while... since JP Morgan/Chase is basically absorbing the WaMu bank back into the parent company. It's all so confusing.

Mary, I too remember those days.  I also remember getting so po'd that I withdrew all my money and closed out my account (Bank of America after 5 previous banks) and started paying my bills with money orders.  All the hidden fees back then drove me crazy.

Well, our car is under JP Morgan/Chase and I guess it's okay. Wow...you must have been pretty stressed by all that.

I remember the 80's as well.  Our bank changed its name 4 times in just a few months.

Mary welcome to The Texas Real Estate group

to the Texas Real Estate group. we sure are glad to have you join us. Theres a lot of very fine Professionals to get to know here. My friend Ricki above there is a very nice lady to get to know.

I am not sure it is a good thing that, JP MorganChase took over WaMu. Some of the business's that take care of homes that have been foreclosed on. Well not do business with them, because they don't pay their bills on time.

God Bless Texas

When I lived in Illinois, my bank got bought, changed names and ended up with new account numbers about every year or so. It was very annoying.
