Auto Responders Part III-Is It The End Of Humanity?

By

I'm always thinking of ways to be more efficient..because time management is my weakness or is it?  There are days that I feel like I get nothing accomplished and then there are the days..Where I think of the song, You Can't Touch This..I'm a steam roller and somehow I just get it all done!

But I admit if I take a look at everything I do..getting back to people in a timely fashion is something I can always improve on...just think about this:

We are global

We market 24/7 even when parts of the world are in a deep sleep

Dropped calls

Bad emails addresses

A message that shows up in your cell phone box..a day later?

You Never Got Back To Me!

With the wonderful tools of technology..there can still be fallacies..that's where getting personal comes in...even with auto responders.

After Sharon's post..it got me thinking..what an opportunity...after all we are all so automated...cell phones, recorded messages, auto responders for emails, text messaging..everything that allows us to always work in the now...

In the moment....

Is it shameful, are we embarrassed?

Is this the end of humanity?

Its the way the world is turning..but we do not have to lose our human touch..even in auto responders.

We do not have to automate our entire businesses..but there are parts I believe it is necessary. When I look at my email box..I have to admit there are times..its really overwhelming..considering I am in front of agents, in front of customers..in front of the public every day all day long..

I know I am not that different from you!

I read Problogger's book, maybe you have and maybe you haven't...I subscribe to his newsletter and read him regularly..he uses auto responders and has over 48,000 subscribers.  Ask yourself..how many subscribers do you have?

In truth what would you do to stay in contact with all those people?  I know that I recieve updates..email newsletters..and more!

I personally appreciate it!

I get auto responses from Oprah..does it offend me?  No it does not!  Is she any different from any one of us?..Just more people know who she is.  Does that make her different and an exception to the rule?..nope just richer and maybe smarter..because she is efficient she has to..the original media queen!

Auto Responders Serve Their Purpose..I Have To Build The Relationship!  Would You Be Insulted If I sent You An Auto Responder?..Many of the Pro's use them..in a wide variety of ways!

When someone leaves a comment on your blog on wordpress or blogger..a message pops up..is that not an auto responder?  This comment is awaiting moderation, can you personalize it?

Or you can't get to the phone because you are face to face with someone....Having a customer listening to your voice recording is that not an auto responder?  It is personalized?

Can you honestly tell me you use no other automated tools?  To me you can get personal..even with auto responders.

I will tell you..I'm not the best...when it comes...to automating my business... but for 2009..that is my goal...and my intention..to be more efficient...have enough energy...to do all I do.  I really don't have auto responders in place..but that is definitely part of 2009's plan..to personalize them..to have them mean something...and remind people..I'm here and I appreciate them!

I don't know I still like the idea..auto responder for my blog comments.

You can't be everything to everyone and every where all at once!

The only auto responder that I have is the answering machine on my cell.  HMMM, maybe I should consider such a thing.  Thanks ma'am  for raising the thought.

BTW, I went back and read both ladies posts and they both have some interesting thoughts to consider.

Midori - Sharon, Jessica and you brought up a very interesting point and I voiced my opinion on their blogs. I would  not implement an auto responder on my blogs, my blogs is my voice and I would definately answer with my voice. Even if you would personalize your auto responder, how would you answer each comment?

Petra-I have to live in my reality here..so let me explain..I like the idea of an autoresponder...just like an autoresponder for email...an autoresponder would never be a substitute..for personal contact.it would enhance and implement what I am doing....but I have to be very honest...I have a huge data base online...over 5000 contacts online...I belong to many social networks..just like so many..and I still train agents...I still sell once in a while and then I have to fit my personal life in...and would love an autoresponder.

You have to think that many times we do get comments that say good job...great post...sorry I don't really respond to often to them..I try to recipricate..and that is how I would find an autoresponder useful.

Even with recipricating I sometimes fail miserably...and I hate to say it...whether we like it or not...the world is changing.  Moving faster....with higher expectations and immediate response times.  I would say 80% of the time I call someone I am leaving a message and it doesn't matter what time of day it is.

It is not only the social aspect I am thinking of here...I am thinking of what would make me a bit more efficient...well rounded and balanced!  Thanks for your input!

Midori - I completely understand your reality and I would have to agree measuring your contacts. We are doing what's best for us, individually. But when you start implementing an autoresponder, I would think the writer, who made a valid comment other than "Good Job, great post" deserves better.

I think it is a decent idea for different mediums.  For a lead management system I think it makes sense as it is quantity.  For a private blog, Im not sure... a blog is more personal and more quality per se... thus, an auto response would be impersonal... I have mixed feelings for a blog.
