BARACK OBAMA PLANS ELECTION NIGHT EVENT IN GRANT PARK, CHICAGO IL - Win or Lose!

Hey, you - U.S. Voter?

Are you Republican (likely you are - I know we have a lot of FL folks in the Cyber Sphere)?  A Democrat?  Liberal Bleeding Heart? Venomous, Paranoid Right-Wing Nut Job?

Most likely, who ever you are you are a bit apprehensive about the future, somewhat nervous about who the next president will be (on both sides of the fence), and more than a bit concerned about the economy.

Whoever is elected in a couple of weeks, the chances are nil that either side can waive a magic wand and make things better overnight.  Right?

Sparing the judgment here - I'm from Chicago, you know, the guy in the Pinstripe Suit, the Wide-Brimmed Fedora, the Violin Case with the Carbine inside, and Several Envelopes Containing Payoff Money in the Vest Pockets - we all agree that the Presidential Election 2008 will be historic, whoever wins.

Should it be Democrat Barack Obama, or should it be Republican Senator McCain, the Obama Campaign plans a major election night event here in Chicago, most likely at the south end of Grant Park on Hutchinson Field, in the shadow of the Chicago Skyline, and the Field Museum, along the Lakefront, downtown.

The specific agenda for the Election Night Gathering is not yet set.  Nor has it been determined if tickets will be required for admission.  Likely, security will be very tight, and gridlock in neighboring Chicago Loop streets - extreme.

Grant Park will likely be selected because of its sheer size - it can accommodate hundreds of thousands, if need be.  Pope John Paul II celebrated mass here during his Chicago visit in 1979.  The Chicago Bulls first Victory Rally, celebrating their 1991 Championship Season, was held here.  Dozens of Music Concerts - from Classical, to Hard Rock - have been performed here.

Located just south of the newer Millennium Park, Grant Park is also the home of the annual Taste of Chicago. and Lollapoluza Concerts, attracting over a million visitors each summer.  Historic Buckingham Fountain (remember the opening of the old TV Show, "Married, With Children"?) is on the East Side of the park, adjoining Lake Shore Drive and Lake Michigan.

The park also has a dark chapter, as the flash point for violent protests surrounding the Democratic Convention held in Chicago in 1968.

Should Democrat Obama be elected to the White House, he would be the first President from Illinois since Abraham Lincoln (Former Illinois Governor and Libertyville IL resident Adlai Stevenson ran unsuccessfully in 1956).  Obama, if elected, would be the first elected president who calls the City of Chicago home.

You coming?  Sue, Buddy, Lil' Gracie and I will try to save a patch of cold lawn for you!

I wish I could have been there, I know it was an emotional and great thing.  America this is good. Just give it time to sink in.  Some of already know it is a good, good victory.  Celebrate like its 2008 and that it is Obama time --- because it is!
