Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg

Real Estate Agent with Coastal Properties Group International

And you think you had problems spelling your city!  From childhood I've had fun just pronouncing the name of this lake.  It's in Webster, Massachusetts, and some people cheat and call it Lake Webster, Lake Manchaugg, or locals often just call it The Lake.

The name, as many name places, came from an Indian language. It's said to mean

You fish on your side, I'll fish on my side, and nobody fishes in the middle.

That has 45 letters.  I have never seen anything like it, and I think I would opt for Lake Webster.  lol

Growing up in Wisconsin, I remember Oconomowoc ('where the waters meet') -- every other letter is an 'O'. Drivers from Las Vegas to LA see the sign for Zzyzx Rd along I-15, the last word alphabetically.

I like the meaning of the name Sharon.  At least the fish have a chance too!

I love the saying :) It makes really good sense. The Pacific Northwest has a lot of tribal names. On of my favorite to here people try and pernounce is Tulalip (Two-lay-lip). Most of the time it comes out Two-lu-lip and gets a laugh out of me every time :)
