Blog writing is for everyone...

People ask me all the time how I come up with so many topics to write about in my blogs.   It's easy..  There's always so much to say.

The more active life you lead....the more things you're involved with, the more you have to write about and seek opinions from others.

A lot of folks are nervous about writing blogs.  Many aren't sure they'll gain acceptance.....others just can't think of anything to write about...still others gain more enjoyment just reading and replying to blogs.    Your comments are as valid as anyone's.

A blog can be on any topic.   It doesn't have to be Pulitzer Prize winning prose....neither does it have to be unforgettable words of wisdom.   It can be as simple as an experience you'd like to share, or to get something off your chest that bothers you.  Who knows, others may have had a similar experience as you.

ActiveRain is for everyone's thoughts and opinions.   You write it....and we'll read it.    Give it a try.   You may make a few new friends through the experience and the more you write, the more you'll want to write.

Thanks.  Sincerely, David

Good points!     In a way, it's like a conversation except there's a delay in the response, for the reader to get back to one.     I wonder, though, how many people writing blogs would be considered "verbals", as opposed to "visuals"?

Hi David,

Thanks for summing up blogging so succinctly.

I was trying to communicate to my Mom the other day what a blog was and how it was different than a web site - she is new to these things. :)

But you are right, a blog can never be wrong as long as you are being honest with  yourself.

If you have a thought about something - make a post about it.

The goal I think, is for a blog to reveal more about you and how you think than anything else.

I am better at face to face than blogging although I know that since starting this I have gotten better. It is hard to put everything down in a format and not be longwinded (and I am VERY longwinded) and lose the reader. Some things we are better at than others... blogging is not my forte but I am getting better! I've erased more than I've written - the same with comments!  Too funny...

The hardest part about blogging is just getting started.  Once you start, often the creativity flows.

Hi David, I'm new to blogging and appreciate your encouragement.  I'm trying to keep a list of things I think are interesting to blog about.

David - I have had people ask me about this as well.  My answer to "what do I write about?" is "anything that you are comfortable writing about".

Good points.  Just getting started, but its amazing the wide variety of topics that can become potential subjects on a blog just from the items that we research for our clients everyday.

I have this problem, I have so much to say but not sure that it is all relevant.  I am getting better at it slowly and hopefully soon will be an avid blogger!

I agree it's like therapy for me. I just start writing and away I go. Hey I'm coming up with something now.

David,

The biggest fear many have is that they feel they aren't perfect but the fact of the matter is nobody is perfect. The other thing is that to get the first blog out is always the hardest and then it gets smoother from there.

Excellent post yet again, David!  How true it is, if you sit and try and write the perfect post each time, you won't accomplish much.  Plus, the informal posts give people more of a glimpse into the writers true personality.

David,

I joined AR a week ago and I am pretty close to posting my first blog (just putting the final touches to it).   I will admit that I was a bit nervous about writing my first post.   What subject to chose?   Will it be a subject that would be interesting for others to read about or be something useful to the members to AR?  How to present the subject once I decided on the subject of my post?   However, I did discover that once I chose a subject and started writing, it was hard to stop.   Have a great weekend!

David,

I still stuggle mightliy with my blogs--especially the ones that I write for our members here. For some reason, Localism posts are easier for me.

There's so much freedom in knowing that you can post often and post on whatever. Anything you screw up one day, you can fix the next!

I've been noticing that people all interact with blogs in different ways. It surprises me that so many people post in agreement. But I guess blogging really is more like a conversation than a magazine article.

Thanks for your post!
