Turkey Rod Run

Car ShowBeginnig of last week, your eye would catch more and more those old beautiful cars, that were able to survive time. They heralded the arrival of the biggest Car show in the nation, the Turkey Run

As everything in life, some cars became famous and sought for, and some didn't. Some are coming with the price tag that makes you scratch your head. But what is the most fascinating, is the love towards those old gorgeous cars, that allowed them to survive and fascinate us.

And what is the better place for that than Daytona's Turkey Run, - the event traditionally tied to Thanksgiving. A combination of a world-class swap meet and a 5000+ custom car show, all in one venue, all over Daytona Beach area.

Car Show2008 at International Speedway was its 35th year. A car show in Ormond Beach in Fortunato Park was its 51st time. And this where I went with a camera on Satuday, sunny and warm, just picture perfect Florida day.

I am not a fan. I can sleep well, knowing that I would never own that gorgeous Fort T, built in 1914, or and Oldsmobile, built in 1938. But even though I do not buy paintings for thousands and thousands of dollars, I do go to the museums, and events like Art Basel in Miami to enjoy art, and I really enjoyed the car show, an uplifting event of shiny old cars that fill your heart with pride, with people having the keenest interest in them, the agility of the event, that does not have that feeling of the fragile and disappearing past. This past was in my face, bold and beautiful, and welcomed.

I will be there next year. I am not bidding farewell, I am simply saying Bye.

If you love cars, you owe it to yourself to watch this slideshow, that I shot this past Saturday.

Hi Jon, I have been to many shows over the years and I am entertained but not passionate about cars, old new or otherwise, lol. The photos here are very good and a lot of fun to look at.

William - There is less and less of what can make us say "wow". Some say we are getting wise, some say we are getting older, I am afraid this is both.

Thanks for visiting

Thanks for sharing Jon, as long as you have good time and you have not spent a fortune then your ahead of the game :). I like to enjoy things that do not cost an arm or leg. I like to go to events like these but I do not love them.

Cheers to you

Best to you and yours

Timothy - You gotta be careful. Passion is contagious, and when you start going to places like this where there is a lot of passion, you can get sick hooked.

And then there is a very short distance between lke and love

There are some old cars that I would love to own, like a 1964½ Mustang, but I'm just not mechanically inclined, so I'd have to hire someone else to take care of it. We have a 1950s style "car cruise" each Thursday evening during the summer in downtown La Mesa, just two miles from me. It's fun to go see how lovingly those old beauties are taken care of and the pride with which they cruise around town.
