#3: COACHES LOOK BENEATH THE SURFACE.
 
 
Have you ever heard the story of the gentleman who loved classic Ford Thunderbird automobiles? He regularly attended car shows and read all the magazines about classic cars. One day he attended a classic car auction and he saw a beautiful 1956 Ford Thunderbird in just the color he loved. When the auction started, he made a couple of bids and to his surprise, he was the winner of the auction at a price that was $15,000 below what he had estimated it would cost.
 
Later, when his dream car was shipped and delivered to his home, he couldn’t wait to put the classic plates on the vehicle and take it for a drive. He ran excitedly to the driveway, jumped in the car and turned the key…however nothing happened. He tried again…no engine sound. What was happening? His beautiful classic car, the car of his dreams…had no engine.
 
And that’s the case with many people, we tend to look at situations from the surface and we don’t tend to check under the hood. Great coaches are always working under the hood, helping clients look beneath the surface.
 
It takes courage to look beneath the surface and every person who has a true desire to fulfill their dreams is willing to go there.

Good stuff and a great reminder. Looking under the hood is hard at first but it is always worth it.

John- Great post. I think this can also mean looking beneath a person's exterior. Sometimes we size someone up in the first few seconds of meeting them and miss out on a lot of what was on the inside!

A great reminder of the facts. And even makes me wonder why he did not wonder why it was obviously too good to be true himself! We try to teach this to our clients all the time. A person can do a lot of research and study a lot of stuff about any number of things, but overlloking the obvious and assuming an engine is included means he did not do the right research and preparation to achieve his goal.
