Going out of business

Beware - Companies (Going out of Business)

In 2008 I was burned by several companies Going Out Of Business, without a warning or a big wonderful sign like this.

There are companies Going Out Of Business everywhere and all of a sudden.

There are lists of companies that are Going Out Of Business over the Internet and through other sources.

Please try to be very careful about doing advertisement in unknown magazines, small newspapers or certain business marketing scams. These people that scam prey on new agent's that have just be licensed.

I have been informed to be careful not to buy gift cards also because many companies are going out of business.

I have been burned by two different printing companies, one company that specializes in Corporate Credit and LLCs. And we just had a Law Firm (Throw us under the bus) just an expression when some one takes advantage of you.

I will be blogging about these companies very soon in the future and they are all located in Las Vegas, Nevada.

My suggestion to everyone when people are trying to sell you their services, (except Real State of course) I can't afford it right now. Or just say "No Thank you"!

Please take a look at Regina Brown's past blog: Warning: Don't Buy Gift Certificates at these Stores for Christmas

Watch where you buy gift cards.  A lot of that happened during the Christmas holidays.  Many retailers may be going out of business once their 2008 sales reports start getting made public.

What about brokers going out of business?  This has been happening around here a lot lately.  Right now one of the biggest brokers in town has their main office in foreclosure.  We have sunshine laws in FL and can find all the recorded info online.

Realtors are known to be an easy sell and a lot of people try to target us with their products and services.  We should only be doing business with reputable service providers not the first person who calls our phone.  And, beware of companies saying they've talked to "so and so" or ones that say we are the people who handle your "some service" or ones wanting to renew your contract.

It will be interesting to see how the retail driven portion of Christmas will change in 09.  With so many retail stores closing I'm thinking supply as well as the selection will be reduced.  As far as gift cards go I only buy the Visa ones.  Those appear to be safe for now.

I know about the gift card thing... but it only makes sense that others are feeling the pinch, too.  I guess that might be an advantage of using credit cards... chargebacks.

Rob -

You would have to look into your county website and see if they list recorded documents.  I go into our county recorder website and can pull information by last name, corporation, etc.  We have sunshine laws which require everything to be available to everyone, no putting it where the sun don't shine.

Robert,

Thought you might like this link; it's Clark Howard the consumer advocate, and he has a lot of great info on everything. I read that liquidation companies take over failing businesses and they don't really lower prices, just put up huge "sale" signs.

Teri

p.s. I was looking up 'going out of business' in active rain's search box for some info because I will be moving from Maryland to California this summer, and I'll be having my own sale. But it'll be a real sale not a phony markdown!
