Something Old and Something New

I took this photo this past weekend while on our little weekend adventure in San Antonio, Texas.  The top half of the Federal Building can be seen peeking over  the north wall of the Alamo. In that same area is a marker commemorating Col. Travis who passed while defending the north wall.  Do you ever wonder where Texas would be today had it not been for heroes like Travis and his men?

My son, who visited the Alamo, was amazed at the fact that it wasn't as large as he expected it to be, considering the size of the events that occurred there, and it's significance in our history.  I really want to travel there one day.

Trey - Glad you survived the Ghost at the Menger Hotel and was able to take these photo's to remind us of some of history and known heroes. Sorry we didn't make the get-together but heard it was great, food was great, weather was great and happy you picked San Antonio to visit and celebrate your anniversary.

Happy New Year and I know 2009 will be good to you and your family.

I bet you know a lot more than the rest of us combined about the history in your great city.  I need to really brush up on Texas history

Myrl

The Mission that remains today and the courtyards are just a small portion of the original fortress. Much is now gone.   And remember  there were just a few men defending it.

Trey, yes, you listen well too.  :)  I guess I'm going to have to get that post about The Alamo I have drafted revised a little and post it.

Hi Trey... Not being a native Texan, I did not learn a lot of details about the Alamo until I moved here as an adult.  When I visited there for the first time I was totally awed at the sense of history that hung in the air there.  Nice post and pics!

Trey,

If it had not been for Travis and the others we would have a bunch of illegals running around making demands, draining our school systems and infrastructures.  Plus everything would be printed in both English and Spanish.
