For the first time in a LONG time, I’m running out of gas…

Shell LogoEvery morning I usually get up and look forward to writing my A/M. blog post. It's a daily ritual that I have been doing for over ten months now, without a single omission.

I had set a lofty  goal for myself in 2008 which I was able to achieve, although just barely. But it was that goal that drove me to relentlessly adhere to my self-imposed regimen.

Now, I am a bit deflated. The drive is just not there. I know that I still have a lot of things to say but they're just not bubbling up to the surface as they did in the past. Perhaps, like some athletes, I spent too much effort too fast and have just burnt out.

Most would suggest that I should take a break.

But the reality is, most breaks are permanent. I have seen many depart from daily activity, never to return to the fray.

I know I'll hang in there, but for the first time, it's getting harder instead of easier. I think I'll reflect a little on the past year, and try to decide how I want to move forward in 2009.

If I know me, it will be something bigger, better and more entertaining!

Richard, Others may balk at this but maybe every other day for your post would be enough for a short time, just to give yourself a rest. I am finding that blogging is very much like a diet and that it is impossible not to cheat once in a while. Take a little rest. It's good for what ails you.

Richard,

I am with Midori!  Sit back and comment on other blogs.  If you need a new morning regimen try this for a week or two.  You'll find more to say.  Don't worry, I will be here to read your next post when you are good and ready.

Rich, take a short break look at it like it's a vacation, where at the end of the vacation you get back to work. When you return  you will be full of energy etc..

Richard, I admit it. I don't read you everyday. But I do read you several time a week. Last year I trained for the 1/5 marathon. The last few weeks were brutal because it was all about getting your miles in. I didn't feel like I had time to do anything else. I took 3 months off. Way too long! Cut back a little. You're kind of committed to the Friday thing ya know. :)

Stacey-Ann...

That's a great idea. I have cut back on my localism posts since all of the technical turmoil ... that would help fill the gaps! Thanks.

Big Mike...

I was wondering why you were being uncharacteristically quiet! Thanks

Jim...

It has indeed been tough for us! I need to get back on my other sites ...great advice! THX

Hey cutie!  I'm with you!  I can't think of a thing to say.  I think my manic/depressive personality is coming to fruition!  I was up, up, up, up, up about the end of 2008.  I was never so glad to see the end of a year.  And now that 2009 is here, it's feeling an awful lot like 2008, and I'm at a loss for words!!  Yikes.  Something will pop into our heads!  xxoo

I really appreciate the encouragement, I really do! I'm really tired, but I'll hang in there for now! Thanks for the nice comment.

Brother Matt...

I used to mix in three to five Localism posts, that will help I think! Thanks, my friend!

You got a good laugh, that was pretty funny! Thanks, my friend.

Chris Ann...

That's why a lot of my posts are dark and depressing! lol

Mel...

Now that's a goal I can live with! I have to admit, I love the attention that I get from the fairer sex! That is what is most compelling about blogging for me! Hmmm I wonder how someone should "register" as an official girlfriend for the count?

Richard... I don't think a break has to be permanent. Granted, most of them are in the summer, but I take lots of breaks from AR.  It's good for rejuvenating the mind.  You set a heck of a goal and made it... don't burn yourself completely out.  What on earth would we do without Dear Richard?

I think we can all relate. It's hard to stay focused when there's so much down time. Setting goals is necessary. And every day, the hardest part is to just get started. Once I get started, I'm fine.

We all have to regroup and recharge from time to time!  I find that if I don't my body usually does it for me - usually in the form of a cold or ??  It's hard to be full speed all the time!

Richard, you have alluded to this in the past.  You can't leave.  I took a break, too, not because of the holidays, but because I have been so nuts busy that I don't have time to even floss.  Now you know how busy that is!  Well, I'm not complaining...but I can't rain or listen to music which keeps me somewhat sane.  I know that's a stretch. LOL.

You always have something wonderful to share and your photography keeps me moving.  In a lot of ways.  Hang in there, friend.  And just give us a bit to keep us going.  You are a warm, sane, lovely person in this cold, hard world.  We'd miss you so much.  Stay true to yourself and us.  Happy New Year!

Richard, some days ya feel it and some days (or weeks) you don't.  I know you had a big goal to make all those posts but cut yourself a little slack. Don't but so much pressure on yourself. You don't have to take a break but just don't write if you don't feel like it. It is OK!  BTW, love your posts!
