I need to change my ira to a roth then into a self directed roth.  Can that be done?

Robin,

Nice job!   I love the opportunities that Self Directed IRA's offer.  Steven you can convert your IRA into a roth IRA.  I'm pretty sure you have to pay the taxes as you convert, but once your done the IRA and your investments will grow tax free.  I love the 10% return for the Self Directed IRA loans for real estate.  What a great opportunity to take the up and downs out of your portfolio and guarantee a 10% return!!   How do we get started!!

There are tremendous benefits to the conversion of your IRA to a ROTH for future 'tax free' investing.  Some elect to do it in segments.  The tax free advantages are the attraction.  You don't have to do it..you can invest with your IRA w/o the transfer but, the tax consequences in the end can be significant.  Check w/your CPA on your specific circumstances...IT's A GOOD THING!  Robin

Good Blog.  Do you see more or less money going into real estate IRAs with the economic crisis? it seems like a good time to invest in real estate IRAs?

Hi!  Absolutely!!  Great time...actually, with what I've been learning, anytime is a good time to go through the Roth vehicles in self-directed opportunities!!  Anytime you can pay tax while the tax rate and profits are low...then, as your profit builds...you no longer have Uncle Sam as a partner...so, you keep your own profits, tax free.  Smart in any market!!!  AWESOME VEHICLE FOR ESTATE PLANNING AND WEALTH BUILDING!!!
