Collierville, Tennessee Driving RoutesIf you live around this area, you have heard people say, "Oh, you live in Collierville, how long does it take you to get here? Seems like a lot of driving". And if people don't actually say that, many are thinking it.

So what kind of drive time should you expect when you live in Collierville?

I estimate about 30 minutes for most places around Memphis. Of course Collierville has several grocery stores, many restaurants, tons of shopping and its own mall - but 30 minutes is about how long it will take you to get to most other places around the city and its other suburbs.

So if you are moving here from say, Des Moines, yes you may be shocked that your drive time to a lot of places may double. But if you are moving here from a larger city, you may be thinking.... 30 minutes, that's it... tha's no big deal... what are these crazy Southern folks thinking?

So why do people have the impression Collierville is so far away?

Collierville is growing rapidly. Several new roads have been built in the last decade that help improve traffic flow in and out of the city. Before these new roads though.. the only choice you had was Poplar. Poplar is the main road that takes you from the most western spot of downtown Memphis, through Memphis, Germantown, then Collierville and beyond. Poplar has a lot going on with traffic lights and several stores. So before the new roads it would easily have taken you an hour or more to get downtown. But not anymore.

Here is a tour on google maps of the main routes in and out of Collierville.

East::West - Main Routes Available In & Out of Collierville

  1. Poplar - City road, 4 lanes in most places, traffic lights, tons of retail. Runs East to West throughout the city and suburbs.

  2. Winchester - Also a city road and 4 lanes in most places. Runs parallel to Poplar, just a little farther South.

  3. Shelton Rd/Wolf River Blvd- This won't show on most maps yet, but Shelton Rd now connects directly to Wolf River Blvd, which becomes Farmington and runs east to west through the northern part of Collierville, then Germantown and connects to Germantown Parkway.

  4. Raleigh-LaGrange - runs east to west. Starts in the north-eastern section of Collierville reserve area. Connects Collierville-Arlington to Houston Levee and then quick shot over to Walnut Grove.

  5. Nonconnah Parkway/Bill Morris Parkway/385 - This interstate has three different names depending on who you talk to. Divided highway with 65 mph speed limit through the suburbs and 55 mph in the city. Connects to I-240, the loop that goes around Memphis.

Collierville has several exits off of 385. From West to East...

    • Houston Levee - The Avenue at Carriage Crossing is located just off this exit. Also close to the FedEx Technology Center campus.
    • Byhalia Road- Quick access to Poplar and Winchester and many stores of Collierville.
    • Hwy 72- Easy connections to Collierville's Historic Town Square.
    • Poplar - Exit coming soon. Will connect to Poplar just over Fayette county line. Makes most eastern part of Collierville even more accessible.

North::South - Main Routes Available In & Out of Collierville

  1. Houston Levee Road- runs north to south on the western side of the Collierville. Connects Winchester to Hwy 64 in Arlington.

  2. Collierville Arlington Road- runs north to south on the eastern side of Collierville. Connects Poplar to Hwy 64. Also connects to Raleigh-Lagrange and Macon which offer another east/west route.

  3. Byhalia Road- Following Byhalia south is a good connection into Northern Mississippi and Olive Branch locations.

So, now that the secret is out...  I can't believe I am sharing Collierville's secrets with you. I like Collierville because of the small town feel with city amenities. I really don't want it to grow to be too big. But.... the secrets out now. Traffic congestion is really broken up through all the different choices. Now, that you know there's not much of a drive..... well you may discover all of the other wonderful things about the area.
