Great Tool to See What Google Sees on Your Website

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Altos Research

I came across this website over the weekend, and I strongly recommend utilizing it. But beware - you might be in for an unpleasant shock if you're site is not optimized, or you think it is, but it's really not...

The tool is SEO-Browser.com - found at www.seo-browser.com. Here's how it works:

Just type your website URL into the text field and SEO-Browser will show you want search engines see when they crawl your site. That's it.

Now, if you wondering what you now see means, read on...

One of the parameters of search engine optimization is the key words on your website. Additionally, different font sizes rank differently. There are categories based on the size of the text - H1s, H2s, H2s, etc.

There's a really good description of headings at the HTML Code Tutorial website.  Don't worry - it's easy to understand.

This is why you might notice that some bloggers seem to strategically use key terms in the titles of their blog posts. I'll use my personal blog as an example.  If someone goes to Google and searches for "Secondary Market for Private Equity," my blog will rank well (all else equal).

The title of my blog - "Structura: Elemental Perspectives on Finance & Business Strategy" shows up as an H1.  The blog post titles are H2, etc.  When Google crawls my site, they see that these key words are in my H1 and H2 and so will move my blogsite up the search engine results when someone searches for these exact terms.

This is one of the reasons that our clients here at Altos Research like our solutions (among many!) - the webpage with live AltosCharts that is included with each subscription does really well with this aspect of search engine optimization.

For example, use SEO-Browser to view this webpage and see what you find on SEO-Browser:

http://www.blogbythebay.com/marin-real-estate-market-reports/

Headings are NOT the only factor in SEO - there are other key factors such as:

  • The number of inbound links
  • The quality of other website linking to you (the New York Times carries more weight if they link to you than a link from your friend)
  • The frequency that you update your content

(Notice how blogging and commenting on other blogs can help you with SEO!! But that's for another article or specialist in SEO.)

Just wanted to make you aware that you can see what the search engines see just by using SEO-Browser.com.

I've bookmarked this one for another day, Scott. Great stuff - I might add, this site appears to be FREE! Too bad I don't totally understand how to fix some of the "issues" found.

Hi Perri (and everyone that's already commented!)  - Not to worry - this isn't a "daily" activity but something you'll want to do as part of your overall internet marketing strategy.  When you're evaluating your website and need a place to start, the SEO-Browser gives an idea of where you have good/bad "headings" on your website for SEO purposes.

If you manage you're own website, there are a few "quick fixes" that you can do by going in and updating your headings.  There's lots more to do - currency of content, links, etc - but this is a good start.
