Is the Time You Spend on Active Rain Worth It?

                                                                                                              Active Rain

I have sees several posts asking questions like:

  • Have you gotten any leads from Active Rain?
  • Do you feel this is a production use of time?

My answer based on my personal experience is ABSOLUTELY YES!

Since joining Active Rain I have received many benefits:

  • Made many new friends among top real estate professionals.
  • Exchanged ideas and have learned more than I could have imagined.
  • Picked up new clients.
  • Learned of industry and market changes.
  • Discussed and debated situations that we face from day to day and have received great advice.
  • Met agents from other states that I can refer clients to and hopefully who will do the same.
  • Learned on new products and services, several that I have incorporated into my business.
  • Adjusted my business plan to incorporate what I learned on Active Rain.
  • Reduced my thoughts to writing.

The last one is something that may be the most underestimated value of blogging.

Your goals, your business plan and everything to do are more likely to be done if it is reduced to writing.  Thinking and speaking generally do not turn into action as well as if it is reduced to writing.

Something a good client pointed out to me recently was that he and his wife read several of my blog posts and used that to decide they wanted to work with me.  How powerful is that?  They did not know any of the real estate agents and they were able to silently interview me by reading my blogs and came to a conclusion about what they may expect when they deal with me.

So if anyone in the future asks me if the time I spent on Active Rain is worth it.  My answer is ABSOLUTELY YES!

Randy - AR has provided for me a wealth of information; everyone is friendly. I have only been at it a few months, but am starting to see results. Even if I did not, it is worth it. Where else can an agent go and receive the training and advice AR offers. Best!

Randy, I couldn't have said it better. I have spoken about AR in the highest regard throughout my office and even to agents of other companies, because as you said I have learned so much in this last month. I love the fact that I can come to AR and ask for advice or just talk about anything in the Real Estate genre and get feedback. I will continue to promote AR and have even been asked to bring it up in our Sales Meeting on Wednesday. I can't wait... :-)

Randy, I agree with you.  Just the quality of Active Rain alone is worth the time and effort.  It is not just a bunch of spammers.  But a Bunch of Professionals.

Paul - Very well said.

Laura - That is cool that you were asked to bring it up at the sale meeting. I would be interested to see how many agents actually join.

Doug - I like hanging out with professionals.

Great post Randy! You nailed what I think is one of the coolest things about blogging. The "silent interview" is very powerful! I love the idea of prospective clients being able to see if we're a match before we even talk. Chances are, if we're not a match, I wouldn't want to work with them anyway, so the idea of people being able to match themselves to me is awesome!

More people will get to know you as you write comments on their blog posts.  You also will get comments if the posts are on topics of interest and have helpful information.  The last thing you can do to get people to know you is add people who's blog posts you like as associates.
