Blue Star Mothers Plan Care Packages
Help Mail Essentials to Local Soldiers Stationed in Iraq
Blue Star Mothers is a national organization for parents who have a child serving in a branch of the US Military.
Elliot recently headed a care package drive held at the Middle Creek High School in Cary NC. As she prepared herself for her son's deployment, she led students and volunteers in packing 77 different boxes of goodies and supplies for other soldiers - all soon gratefully recieved.
So what's good to send in a care package?
- Shampoo and soap
- Snack foods that don't need refrigeration (and won't melt in high summer temperatures)
- Phone cards, envelopes, and paper
- Coffee, sugar, creamer
- Granola/protein bars
- Paperback books
Elliot says the biggest obstacle is shipping cost. With the military flat rate, each care package costs $10.95 to mail. She is constantly searching for donations to ship these boxes and make each soldier's tour of duty just a little easier. Contact Patti Elliott at 919-495-2283 or at firstname.lastname@example.org to find out how to help!
