Why do we have to hear so much doom and gloom about real estate?

Anytime I turn on the news, there is so much negativity about real estate right now.  I understand the situation and the problems we're dealing with - I can't change that.  However, being in the industry, I wonder why more focus isn't being paid to all the activity and competition to purchase bank owned properties and short sales? I have many buyers who are ready to give up on buying right now simply because there's too much competition and they are being outbid for homes.  I have a short sale on the market right now and I have 13 offers in hand, most over asking price!  Things are selling and I think the media should pay some attention to this. It just might create a little consumer confidence! I also don't understand the people who are not in the business who feel the need to spread more doom & gloom on what's happening, I'm seeing it all over the web.  I guess it's just not bad enough for them yet. This is America and I'm happy to be living here.  Our ancestors went through incredible trials to get to this country.  At least I am appreciative. Some people ought to get out more instead of expressing their anger through blogging on real estate websites!

Exactly, Cynthia. I just sent emails to our sphere highlighting how much inventory is down in various areas around town - how our sales are up 28% over least year, how we have opened over $14,000,000 in our office since Jan. 1. Why did I send it? Because they won't hear this on the nightly news.

Frank & Sharon, I'm so happy to hear that! Good for you :)  I hope that your mailing has a positive influence in your community....speaking of which, I wonder if my husbands ancestry landed there first? Fleming Island! I've never been - going to have to check it out!

I am glad to hear things are picking up elsewhere.  Since things tend to happen in sequence we should start picking up more steam very soon!  Since most of our military relo need to sale their homes elsewhere first, that market should pickup real soon.

Hi Ron, I do hope things start picking up for you as well! Think positive!  My son is in the Navy and was on the USS Iwo Jima based out of Norfolk, VA but he was transferred out to San Clemente Island last summer. He does air traffic control. It's nice to have him close to home, he can actually come home on weekends occassionally!

Gloom and doom sells....positive news does not.  The market goes up 400 points and it does not make our headlines in Austin, but the lady with the 8 babies still is on the front page weeks after the fact.  It is just a fact of life we have to deal with.  I will not be sad as some of the newspapers fall by the wayside.

Cynthia,

I think Tim said what I was going to say.  We all have to put a positive spin on everything.  Let the people know what is really going on.  Our state association recently launched a great marketing program letting people know exactly what is going on in Texas.

Tim, So true, but doesn't make it any easier! We need to all spread the positive news about what's happening and energize each other.

Richard, You've got that right, it's all up to us...Is it possible for you to email me the marketing program that Texas is using? I'd love to see it. Thanks :)
