Facebook, Twitter, & Blogs

Is Twitter causing changes at Facebook?  Facebook has announced they are changing their website.  The biggest change is the "status update" which will change from "What are you doing?" to "What's on your mind?"

"It's going to be more about the message you want to send to others than what you're doing at that very moment," says Meredith Chin, Facebook's manager of corporate accounts. Or as the Facebook describes it in a blog post: "One way to think about this is as a timeline -- or a stream. As people share more ... the pace of updates accelerates." Sort of like those annoying tickers that run across the bottom of cable news channels, but all the news is about people who never get off their couches. www.time.com .

Twitter is now everywhere you look, it seems, and is the place where you share "What are you doing?" and Facebook is the place where you share "What's on your mind?"

Twitter is all about action, for saying that traffic is bad at 281 and Bitters or that you are headed to Starbucks. Facebook is all about thought, for saying you are considering what breed of dog to get.

What about blogs?  Blogs are great for sharing thoughts, communicating, and networking.  You choose how you want to use your blog.

I am trying to get used to the new Facebook look.  I'm not sure why they changed it, but I'll eventually catch on.

Have a great week!

Hi Shirley.  I like the changes.

Still warming up to them.

Do you use Facebook and Twitter?  I think they are a must for agents...

Thanks for writing,

Ken

I am one of those Twitter users and like the changes to Facebook.  You are right that you hear about these two applications all over the place.  Its been a learning experience and quite fun.

I went to FB for the first time this weekend in a couple of weeks, and was shocked with the surprise when I logged in.  I'm not so sure of this new look... but I'm starting to get sick of all the "new" social medias that keep popping up...  My twitter updates go directly to FB, and so do my AR blogs.

I noticed the new look at Facebook. The stream seems a lot more like the twitter format. It is a lot to keep up with. I'm going to just focus on blogging here for awhile.

Hi Ann, Thanks. You, too!

Ken, I have recently started using Facebook and Twitter.

John, I wonder what's next!

Donna, I feel the same as you about all the "new" social media.  Maybe that will change.

KM, I agree -- too many.

Dale, I will check in at the blog along.

Fred, They must be competing.  Blogging is working out just fine for me.

Twitter is just too overwhelming.  It zaps all your time.  It makes you wonder if all those people who Twitter all day really have jobs???  I had to put mine on AUTO-pilot!

Hi Regina,  I agree... LOL!

C&C, I like Facebook for family contact but haven't explored it for business yet.  I would set up a separate account for that.

Tweet if you love TWITTER

I love twitter if you want to weed out all the junk use Tweet deck from tweetdeck.com it has a search function or a filter if you will so you can watch tweets relative to you market. Enter the word San Antonio in quotes for example and you might see tweets saying "in san antonio for my second job interview" or "we will be looking for a new house in san antonio in april" then you can reply @username and capture them as a lead...good luck and believe me when I say its not a waste of time. I have been featured on the news twice because news people follow my tweets and I have recieved a full refund from @esurance because I tweeted about how upset I was with them.
