153 FACEBOOK ONLINE FRIENDS - NOW, SOME ACTUAL BUSINESS LEADS!

By
Real Estate Agent with Dean's Team - Keller Williams Realty Partners Chicago IL

Hey, hey from Chicago folks!  Perhaps, spring is indeed coming - a tease of plus-70 degrees this week, with more to come next week!

Can hardly wait!

Facebook!  My Space!  LinkedIn!  Twitter!  Plaxo!  And so on . . .

Are you on them?  Of course you are!

You've made quasi-secure contact with your old college chums. High school buds, perhaps - guys now with pot bellys and balding heads, ladies who, well, look almost exactly as they did all those years ago!

Old teachers - co-workers all but forgotten.  Joined some groups, passed some pokes, likes, drinks, Blue Cove Requests, and more.

Maybe even an old flame or two - yes?  (We won't tell anyone - what happens on Active Rain, stays on Active Rain, you know!)

But have you actually converted any BUSINESS from your new-found social networking connections?

You know, I am not counting Active Rain Blogging - which some consider social networking.  I am talking about the other sites - developed originally for young people to connect, but now becoming increasingly important as a Business Tool.

I joined the big social networking sites strictly for business - but developed the old connections as a bonus.  And, in my Real Estate Business, it seems many of my old friends have a  need for a New Fashioned Realtor - even one that was alive and kicking when Richard Nixon was President of the United States (really dating myself here - yes?)

So far, for our Real Estate Team in Chicago - three promising buyer leads, one listing lead, from old friends and colleagues - from Facebook and Twitter.  All came since we ramped up our Social Networking participation at the urging of our Business Success Coach last fall.

Nothing has closed yet, but it's looking promising!

What about you?  Any actual business benefit, and generated revenue, from your Social Networking activity?

Inquiring Bloggers need to know!  Please share!

Some actual business has come out of Facebook via connections from friends to their connections.

Well, you can write on a contact's wall on Facebook and all of their friends can see your name on their profile page. You can post blogs through the "Notes" section. I feel communicating with old friends or acquintances through Facebook is more informal and inviting than emails or at least it keeps them in their comfort zone.

I've "talked shop" with people on Facebook enough for them to trust my real estate advice and later use my services to purchase!

all the best,

Brian

Dean, Don't you think its a real advantage when you are still living in your home town? I haven't made any us connections, but did hear fro m an old friend in Boston. I am thinking of contacting a friend whom I knew well during  college in DC. He has a mini profile, but not photo or activity. Think I should go for it ?

AR has been a plus for me but so far Facebook and Linked In have not done anything - still working them and will see what happens

Facebook has not brought in any business yet but I also just started online networking about 1 month ago.  Time will tell whether it helps or not.  AR has helped in knowledged gained from others.

Dean, I dove into Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin yesterday.  I wish I could take a class to learn everything about these programs.

I have been on AR for over a year. Here, too, for a long time I was reluctant to get into blogging.  I learned a lot and got renters for some reason.  I think it is all good, except for the time I am investing in this and not reading all the business books I purchased.
