Sometimes, it's best to see your own area through the eyes of a tourist.

Georgia Aquarium by Richard WeisserI had out of town visitors at the house last Friday, Saturday and Sunday. And they wanted to see the local sights and to get out and have some fun!

So it was up to me to plan an itinerary of places to go go and things to do!

We started on Friday by heading to Warm Springs Georgia for lunch at the Bulloch House and after we were loaded with fried chicken and green tomatoes, we toured Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Little White House. We followed that with a trip to the spring itself, and then a visit to Dowdell's Know which was one of the late president's favorite picnic spots!

On Saturday we lunched at the famous Varsity Drive-in in Atlanta, followed by a trip to the Atlanta Zoo. After seeing all of the animals, we went to the Cyclorama to see the civil war museum in addition to the largest oil painting in the world! We finished Saturday off with a fine dinner at Frank's Fine Foods, right here in Coweta County!

The Little White House in Warm SpringsSunday morning took us back to downtown Atlanta, to visit the largest Aquarium in the world ...The Georgia Aquarium! While there, we toured the Titanic exhibit which has hundreds of artifacts recovered from under the sea. It was amazing. After the Aquarium, we spent the rest of the afternoon in Centennial Olympic Park, which was bustling with activity of a beautiful Spring Day.

Then it was off to Ru-Sans for sushi. The last thing we did was an auto tour of the beautiful antebellum homes in Newnan, where I work every day.

We all had a great time, and the truth is, I haven't really looked at where I live through the eyes of a tourist in a long time!

Atlanta is a great place to live, and there is plenty to do and see! We already have a long list of places to go and things to do next time!

And I can't wait!

What a great weekend - thanks for sharing!  We tend not to fully appreciate everything around us until someone else comes to town.  And, as always, gorgeous photos.

Richard, great idea to learn our own area better.  We need to know what is around us in order to fully market our area.

Dorie...

Thanks ... we were so lucky to have nearly perfect weather conditions all weekend ... and with all of the spring blooms everything was so beautiful!

Gail...

The aquarium is ALWAYS crowded, but it's so COOL. Thanks, as always my friend!

Lenn...

Stone Mountain is just East of Atlanta ... next trip will be Stone Mountain, The Carlos Museum, The High Museum and the World of Coke! We just ran out of time!

Lake Lanier is still down about fifteen feet, but more rain is on the way!

Fernando...

Thanks for your comment ... and I value your opinion ... and I'm going to address all of them in a post this afternoon, so be sure to check back!

Janice...

I'll bet you could spend a week in Atlanta and not see everything! There is so much to do. Thanks.

Penny...

We had the World of Coke on the agenda but we ran out of gas and saved it for next time! Also, the High and Fernbank are planned in the future! Thanks for the testimonial, I really appreciate the support!

Hi Richard,

You are correct. Sometimes we have to look at our surroundings thru other peoples eyes to see what we really have. It's the same when an agent goes to sell his/her own home...the agent has to stop and try to look at things to see them the way a buyer would.

Great photos!

Great pictures. I guess Tour guide is a hat that we have to wear sometimes too. It was good for you to get "back in touch" with your town.

Nothing like having a local take you around to the sights. Maybe in a few years it might be a new career option for you.

Brother Richard - I didn't know it was the largest aquarium....hmmm, guess I'll have to add that to my list of must see aquariums (my wife and I visit aquariums and zoos whenever we can).

I think it's great to have out of town visitors to show around, they help us reconnect with all there is to do in our own backyard that we sometimes overlook.

It's always amazing that we can live in a place for ages and not truly see and enjoy our own areas.  I have found this to be true all the way from Boston to Tampa and many points in between.  Glad you got to take a little time and get reaquainted with your area.  Makes you feel good, doesn't it?!

You are right Richard.  Easy to overlook the great things in our own back yard.

Sometimes it takes a visitor to remind us.

Thanks for writing,

Richard, as always beautiful photos.  It's so true that we often don't look at what there is to see in our  own backyards.  Looks like you had lots of fun with your guests and it made for a really great localism post.
