Coby Hakalir got his start in the mortgage business at the tender age of 13.....helping his mom, a loan officer in Brooklyn, NY (his hometown before chi-town), run credit reports for her clients. By the age of 16, Coby was processing FHA loan files, and by the time he graduated high school, was a full fledged loan originator for Fleet Mortgage Group in West Hempstead, NY. In July of 2000, Coby decided to seek his fortune out west, and moved to the Windy City, where he accepted a position with LaSalle Home Mortgage. He was the number two producer at LaSalle, and after two years (and a trunkful of sales awards) decided it was time to try his hand at another side of the real estate business. He founded Spartan Properties, a commercial real estate investment and management firm that specialized in garden apartment complexes in central and southern Illinois. After 3 years, and realizing that his heart was still in the mortgage game, Coby sold his share in the company to his partners and went to work at Countrywide Home Loans (rejoining his old LaSalle buddies), where he accepted a sales manager position. After a brief stint at Countrywide, Coby moved on to Draper and Kramer Mortgage Corp (where he was the number three producer), and ultimately became a branch manager of two offices. In February of 2008, Draper and Kramer underwent a merger, and Coby decided it was time to rejoin his old friends Jim Tausche' and Dave Angres at Capital Funding Mortgage Company, where he accepted a position as Vice President of Business Development. Most recently, Coby decided it was time to re-enter the retail banking world and rejoined Bank of America Home Loans.
Coby enjoys spending time with his twin 4 year olds, Gabriel and Dena, playing guitar, and plays semi-professional baseball in the Chicago Metropolitan Baseball Association. He lives in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago.
