I moved to Dallas, Ga in 01/00, after a divorce and was needing a career change. I immediatley began working at Mainstreet Appraisals as a data entry clerk for the owner, Mr. Ron Stokes. In the fall of '01 I had made my decision to become an Appraiser, and attended Barney Fletcher Appraisal School near Atlanta. I completed the required coursework, earning the level of Registered Appraiser in 2/02. The data entry position had prepared me, in advance to 'hit the ground running', so to speak. I quickly obtained the needed 2,000 hours, and then some, by the summer of '03 passing the state exam, August of '03. At which time I formed my business, Bankston & Associates. In Feb. of '04 I made the move to work out of my home. Signing up for databases, buying equipment & supplies, software and so forth. Business was slow, but I remained determined. Eventually, I had built a good client base and things began to click by 2005. I continued to strive for excellence, with honest & integrity. Proper Ethics are so important. In May of 2007, I passed the state exam for Certified Residential. I do plan to eventually move up to Certified General under the new educational requirements. The newly adopted coursework will be challenging, but education is something no one can take away!
