Sherman C. Toppin is an experienced Real Estate Attorney and Broker. He operates a law firm and real estate brokerage with locations in Philadelphia, PA and Sicklerville, New Jersey. Toppin’s law practice involves all variety of real estate transactions, real estate litigation, and receivership. The matters he represents range from simple residential closings to complex development deals.
As the broker/owner of a real estate company, he employs a team of agents that assist consumers with buying and selling homes. His brokerage also manages rental units and apartment buildings for both private and corporate owners.
Mr. Toppin is frequently appointed as a Receiver in mortgage foreclosure matters involving multi-unit buildings and portfolios of residential properties. Institutional lenders, private local banks and equity funds hire Toppin to manage assets pending foreclosure and/or arriving in their real estate owned (REO) departments.
In academia, Toppin is frequently engaged as an instructor, presenter or trainer of various real estate subjects. Toppin is a member of the Adjunct Faculty at Temple University Real Estate Institute, where he teaches Real Estate Law and licensure course for Broker and agents. Previously, he taught Business Law for several years at Strayer University. Mr. Toppin recently instructed a continuing education course for the National Bar Association Annual Issues Symposium which addressed the mortgage foreclosure epidemic. He was also a Faculty presenter at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute’s 12th Annual Real Estate CLE where he taught methods of residential real estate valuation.
A native of the District of Columbia, Toppin earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia, and received his Juris Doctor from the College of William & Mary School of Law. He is admitted to the bars of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Virginia, and can represent clients in both state and federal courts in these jurisdictions.
In the media, Toppin has appeared on episodes of HGTV’s show “Bang for your Buck” as a Real Estate Expert, providing property valuation data and marketing expertise. Toppin is often invited by local radio personalities to speak on real estate issues and forecast market trends.
Recently, Toppin was elected the 60th President of the Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia, an affiliate organization of the National Bar Association, by practicing attorneys in the region.
