As I drove down Heritage Drive and turned the corner onto Fairmount Drive to meet my client to list his condo for sale, I was struck by just how conveniently located it was.  Heritage Drive is a well-used conduit in Calgary that effectively links McLeod Trail, a main North to South artery in Calgary to shopping and restaurants in Deerfoot Meadows, and provides access to Deerfoot Trail.  Exiting the City of Calgary to the North and South of town, Deerfoot Trail becomes Highway #2 or the Queen E II as it’s also known. For many, this major roadway is the key to making a living in Calgary as commuters use it on a daily basis to get to work down town, across town, or out of town.

“Turn right after the Shoppers’” he had said, when giving me directions.  And he was right, the building was located right beside the pharmacy, as well as the post office, restaurants, little shops to meet every need, and there was even a car repair shop and gas station nearby.  Wow I thought, you wouldn’t even need a car if you lived here.  And just as the thought popped into my head, and I parked my own car, I noticed the bus stop was located just a few meters over on the next block.

As I got out of my car, my client waved to me.  He had seen me arrive, and welcomed me into his 2 bedroom apartment condo.  It was a corner unit, so it was easy for him look out any window to tell who was coming & going.

I walked in and was pleasantly surprised by what I saw… The rich dark coloured laminate flooring of the entryway lead into a bright, spacious, contemporary suite.  We talked, and I asked him if he was sure he wanted to sell…? This was a great unit.   We continued on, and he showed me the features of the home. 

KitchenFor starters, the Kitchen had been re-done… Fresh new white cabinetry and  granite countertops with a new under-mount sink and faucet.  The cabinetry extended beyond what would be considered the kitchen, to a wall to wall unit that included drawers, a pantry complete with pullout drawers, and an extra full height compartment for storage of larger items.  

 

 

 

 

 

Appliances Of course you wouldn’t want to update a kitchen without giving the appliances the same treatment.  He pointed out that the appliances were selected for quality… Thermador Built-in oven, along with a built-in microwave oven above, and he also pointed out the stainless steel Bosch dishwasher. 

Of course, you couldn’t miss the center-piece of it all, the Countertop Electric Stove, perched elegantly atop a solid slab of white and black granite sparkling in the overhead lights with embedded crystals.

The lighting, that’s what really gave this space such a vibrant, yet comfortable feeling.  I worked recently with another buyer client who let me know in each and every house that we looked at, that he would be installing pot lights.  And I can see why.  The placement of the lights, and the fact that you can create pools of light exactly where you want them, allows you to highlight the things you love, and illuminate areas with purpose.  Lighting is key to setting the mood of a home, and in this case, the mood could be controlled remotely -- a remote control allows you to dim the lights as you see fit.

As we moved through the home, I had to see the bathroom.  The condo was built in 1982, so I just had to see what condition that was in.  Again, sparkling clean with, to my amazement, two sinks.  Brilliant.  In my personal opinion, one sink can sink a relationship, and two sinks can save it.  As I looked over to the new tub and shower, the “rainfall” showerhead caught my eye.  But not before I noticed something about my feet… they were warm!  The tiles were heated.  Someone had planned this home renovation for living comfortably.

 

Master Bedroom

Moving on, we stopped in to see the 2nd bedroom, but truthfully, I wanted to take a look at the Master Bedroom.  Once again, my pre-conceived notions were shattered.  The room was laid out “just so.”  With pristine white linens, two bedside tables with complimentary lamps, and two full length dressers placed end to end to create endless storage, and a showcase underline for the flat screen TV that could potentially be wall mounted.  The room was large, bright and spacious, with a closet fit for two, and a generous window to let light stream in from the South.
