If you're thinking about moving to Denver you may be trying to figure out where to send your kids to school, which could effect your choice of where to live. It can be a daunting task with a lot of pressure to choose the right school for your children.


The following schools all ranked in the "distinguished" range for Denver Public School District, meaning within the top 80 to 100 percent. This level means that these schools have very high ratings for academic growth and proficiency. Within the district, 58% of the schools rank in the two highest ranges: distinguished and meets expectations.


Lincoln Elementary School teaches children in preschool to fifth graders. The school follows the Montessori approach, which observes and supports the natural development of children. The student to teacher ratio is 32 to 1, one of the higher ratios for this group of schools. This school is located at 710 S Pennsylvania St.


Slavens Elementary serves children from preschool to eighth grade. Slavens is known for its basketball team and their chorus. To be admitted to the sixth grade and higher an application is necessary. The student to teacher ratio is 21 to 1. This school is located at 3000 S Clayton St.


Cory Elementary School houses pre-kindergarten to fifth grade. This school is known for its highly gifted and talented magnet program as well as being a beacon school. The student to teacher ratio is 17 to 1, the lowest for this group of schools. Cory Elementary is located at 1550 S Steele St.


Steck Elementary teaches children in kindergarten through fifth grade. This school is known for their academic contests and physical education classes. The student to teacher ratio is 23 to 1. Steck Elementary is located at 425 Ash St.


McMeen Elementary School teaches preschool to fifth grade. It is also a Denver Teacher Residency Host School Site, a program that works to help produce effective teachers. The student to teacher ratio is 20 to 1. This school is located at 1000 S Holly St.
