New York City based Clarion Partners a global real estate investor has purchased the newly built 22 story deluxe apartment building at Harbor Point, Stamford. Commonly Asked Bed room Feng Shui Questions answered by Laura Cerrano
Laura Cerrano, Authentic Feng Shui Expert (Feng Shui Manhattan Long Island)

Commonly Asked Bed room Feng Shui Questions answered by Laura Cerrano

These are common bed questions asked by clients or various individuals who are simply interested in learning about Feng Shui.

Q.What direction should the bed face when setting up my room according to Feng Shui?

A. That will depend on what method of Feng Shui you are utilizing to enhance that space.   If you wish to use classical Feng Shui, you need your date of birth and a compass to find your best personal sleeping direction.   If you find that to be difficult to understand then I would recommend making sure you have a "commanding position" of the bedroom entrance.  This means you can physically see and energetically feel who is always coming into your space.  It is a protective principle in Feng Shui.

Q.Does my bed need to have a headboard?

A. Feng Shui always suggests to use a headboard because it symbolizes support while you sleep and in life.  Try to avoid to high of a headboard or to low, it should meet some where in the middle if you can.  If a headboard is not an option then try to use artwork or a tapestry as the next best thing.  The artwork can symbolize a supportive structure or symbol that represents a tranquil rest.  If that is not an option, then use pillows to act as a supportive backing.

Q. If I have a headboard does it need to be solid or can I have openings in it?

A.Feng Shui suggest that you have a solid, closed up headboard with no openings or rails.  Again it's a supportive manner.  If you do have rails and bars designed into your head board, either you extra pillows to create that supportive energy or some may even place fabric over the headboard to close up the gaps.

Q. Is it okay to have a metal or wood framed bed?

A. Traditional Feng Shui says you really should have a wood based bed frame.  Again, the reason is because it is a supportive element and deflects electromagnet energy given off from any electronics in the bedroom.  If you have a metal bed, it will energetically conduct those vibrations and has been proven to interfere with your sleep pattern and the amount of rest you gain over night. If you are someone healing from an illness or battling cancer, it's best to be literal and support yourself with a wooden based bed frame.

Q. Is it better to have your bed against a solid wall or can I place it by a window?

A. It's best to have your bed up against a solid wall but you have to work with what you have sometimes.  If propping your bed up against the window is the best location then be sure to add supportive blinds and curtains behind you. Again the element of wood represents support and earth is for protection.  Some may use wooden blinds or earth based color blinds, or even the thickness of the blinds can add a supportive energy. Accent colors for wood are green and brown, earth is any earth tone colors and yellows.  Some may even use crystals to represent the earth element and offset your energy going "out the window" as you sleep. You can place them on the windowsill. Simply remember to close the blinds when sleeping. If you bed has a headboard, this will be an added supportive element when sleeping.

Q. I can only enter into my bed on one side, is that okay?

A. If you are looking to welcome in a new loved one or are with a partner currently, it's best to have equal room on either side of your bed so that both can enter no problem.  At the same rate, this represents a better energy flow for you both or when looking to call in a new relationship, you are making room.  If you cannot do an equal distance, then show the effort and move the bed away from the wall just a bit.

Q. I have limited storage, is it okay to keep things under my bed?

A. Yes, work with what you have and this is common is studio New York City, Connecticut and Long Island apartments.  Items to avoid storing under your bed are shoes, work out equipment, heavy weights, bills, Wills, homework, old loved letters from ex's, sharp or cutting objects and metal objects as to name a few. Why? Because all these objects whether physically, energetically or emotionally carry a heavy energy to them. Energy in Feng Shui and really with any spiritual teaching says energy always moves in an upward direction.  When we sleep, we are most prone to absorbing both negative and positive energy, so it's important ot be mindful of what surrounds you at all times. Especially when sleeping. Clothing is the exception and items that motivate you, such as journals filled with great new ideas for artwork :)

I hope this helps many of you gain insight into these commonly asked questions.  Be well and many blessings.
