Bradenton's Charming Village of the Arts
Bradenton’s Village of the Arts is one of the nation’s largest art communities, set on 42 acres in the southern part of charming downtown Bradenton. There are plenty of arts-oriented businesses at the Village including 25 galleries, sidewalk cafés, artists’ studios, healing arts centers, a yoga studio, bookstores, and more. The Village of the Arts was established in the early 21st century by the Artists Guild of Manatee, Inc., a non-profit group with a mission to bring the arts and arts education to Bradenton and to enhance its quality of life.
Along with the businesses, 240 Bradenton homes are also part of the Village. All the buildings are homes or studios that were originally constructed in the 1920s and 1930s, so the Village is able to blend the grandeur of Bradenton’s past with the most cutting-edge creativity of the 21st century. For over a decade, the Village of the Arts has become a unique community for artists living, learning, creating and working together.
The Village of the Arts is also a festive, vibrant community where something is always happening. An Art Walk is sponsored on the first Friday and Saturday of each month, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on first Fridays and from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on first Saturdays. Art, shopping, live music by local performers, delicious food, and free parking are part of every Art Walk. There’s a different theme every month and this May the Art Walk coincides with Cinco de Mayo and focuses on a Mexican theme. In June, “Art in Bloom” will be the theme, so look forward to plenty of bright flowers and colorful works of art.
Gardening, flower and fashion shows, food festivals, benefits, and concerts are frequent. In other words, there is almost always something of interest at the Village of the Arts. Many of the Village’s businesses are full-time and are open during regular business hours. The number of full-time operations has grown every year, and the Village continues to grow as it pursues cooperative ventures with other local cultural venues and institutions. The Village of the Arts is bordered by 9th and 16th Avenues West and by 9th and 14th Streets West. The community is handicapped accessible, children are always welcome, and admission to the Art Walks is always free.
