2013 World Record – 5721 Sandwiches in 30 Minutes by Pine View School 488 Pine View School students who had fun with sticky WOWBUTTER and jelly, made 5,721 sandwiches in 30 minutes.  They unofficially broke the previous record of 2,706 in an hour, and achieved a 2013 world record. Major sponsors of the 2013 World Record event Rotary Club of Sarasota Sunrise, Wal-Mart’s, Sam’s Club, WOWBUTTER Foods and several private donors. The event was hosted by the Pine View Interact Club. Amount of items used to make the 5,721 Sandwiches 68 tables 488 students 130 jars of 4.41LB WOWBUTTER 500Ib of jelly More than 10,000 slices of bread Students at Pine View School were aware of some people having allergies to peanut butter, therefore, they made soy based sandwiches, and all these sandwiches will be donated to four local food banks in the fight against hunger. Important specific rules by Guinness for the Sandwiches: Bread slices must be covered with WOWBUTTER on each side and jelly in the middle. Bread slices must be placed on top of each other so that sandwich is neat. The Witnesses will be checking and counting each sandwich after it is made.  Any sandwich not up to Guinness standards will be discounted. Continue to make sandwiches until supplies run out or the whistle sounds to stop. Important Timers and Independent Witnesses for the 2013 World Record event: No Guinness representatives attended the event .The following were the important timers and independent witnesses who have taken time from their busy schedule to help inspect and count the sandwiches, as well as made sure their efforts met all the organization’s standards. The Interact Act Club used 4 cameras to film the entire process as evidence. Beverly Girard, Director of Nutrition and Food Services, Sarasota County Schools Christine Robinson, County Commissioner Herb Jones, Board of Directors, Sarasota Military Academy Jane Goodwin, Sarasota County School Board Logan Malone, Retired Rear Admiral Steve DeMarsh, Sarasota County Attorney Terri Ann Koehler, Official Timekeeper Tom Knight, County Sheriff Wendy Deming, Exec Director of the Gulfcoast Foundation Yolanda Mancha, Director for Catholic Youth Development Reasons for the 2013 World Record event by Pine View School: Tell the public what they can do for its local community and inspire them to do the same. Chose a service oriented World Record to give back to local community To raise donations to cover cost of the event plus any costs over and above that would go to their global project Have fun to work together as a team and create a historic event before school ends. What I learned from this event? Southbay Yacht & Racquet Club is a lovely deed restricted/non gated waterfront community in Osprey, Sarasota County. Located along Little Sarasota Bay, it is truly a place to live if people cannot decide whether they want  country living or waterfront living. Therefore, Southbay is ideal because homeowners can enjoy both worlds. What a deal! Almost 360 homes are in Southbay. Some are located on the Intracoastal Waterway. Some are surrounding the 7 acre marina, and many homes are on manicured park like greenbelt areas. The amenities are manifold: clubhouse with ballroom, exercise room with a sauna, and a library. Furthermore, a park with five miles of winding sidewalks for walking/running/ biking, deep-water marina with 172 slips for boats up to 55’ and access to the Gulf of Mexico via the Intracoastal Waterway, shuffle board courts, a 50’ heated swimming pool, and four lighted tennis courts (“sport clay” and asphalt). Most of the homes were built in the 70’s or 80’s. Some of them really need major remodeling; others have already been nicely updated. In 2005 the prices used to be in the jaw dropping $415,000 to $1,900,000 range ($219 to $624/sqft), but 2011 prices are way down. The majority of the homes sell now for $170,000 to $430,000, which translates into a sqft price of $101 - $158. This seems a lot more affordable than it used to be a few years ago. If you wish to simply fish off the mainland, head on down to Lookout Point Park, located in the neighborhood. The park also has around 5 miles of trail, where you can walk, run, or bike ride. If you feel like having a nice day at the beach, Casey Key is a great option, and in close proximity too. Osprey has a number of schools in the vicinity for kids of all ages; from day care and preschool to high school and colleges. Schools include Nokomis Elementary, Laurel Middle, and Venice High School. We also have the Pine View School, which is a public school for gifted children. Higher education institutions include New College, Ringling School of Art & Design, and the State College of Florida. There are so many things to do in this Sarasota area, including shopping and dining. Shopping selections include Macys, JCPenney, Charlotte Russe, New York & Company, and JoS A. Bank. Dining options in this area include the Casey Key Fish House, Mama Leoni's, Rosebud's, Beckham's Osprey Grill, and the Spanish Pointe Pub & Marina. For those who love to travel, you will be happy to know that both the Sarasota-Bradenton International and the Tampa International Airports are a short distance away. It takes about a 30 minute drive to the Sarasota airport, and an hour or so drive to the Tampa airport. Although it is not exactly Sarasota, Osprey has so much to offer both its residents and guests of the area. With so many perks and easy access to shops, restaurants, the beach, and airports, who wouldn't want to live here?
