Home sales in the Lake Highlands area were down 20% in February 2014 compared to last year, with 60 homes selling this month. So far this year, overall home sales have an increase of 10%, with 127 homes sold. New Lake Highlands real estate listings increased 11% from last year, with 110 homes listed this month. For the year-to-date, home listings have increased 10%, with 220 homes listed. The number of current listings under contract this month was up 9%, at 93 homes. Storm Cleon Spreads the Hate on Dallas

DFWIce - Storm Cleon DallasEVERY once in a great while, Dallas will feel the full extent of winter's approaching fury. We usually don't feel any blip in the balmy breeze until February, with many a memory of our first 'freeze' right around Valentines. This year, however, Mother Nature came calling early. 

More than 100,000 customers and many friends of mine were without power yesterday and today, with temps hovering around 23F. Over 400 departing flights from DFW were cancelled and there have been two deaths in the storms aftermath and incidents. 

DFWIce - Storm Cleon DallasI left the house briefly today to conduct a meeting that was one day overdue for a lease transition. The roads saw a bit of thawing overnight, and refrose - with more expected tonight. I would not recommend leaving the comforts of home, if you can avoid it.

And if you aren't fortunate enough to have a backyard flanked with thick, constantly-needs-trimming bamboo, this is what you are missing. It looks as if our backyard space has been swallowed up by the creature from beneath.

Should I List My Home during the Fall/Winter/Holiday Season?

Listing your home for sale during the winter season and holiday monthsSo you're wondering, halfway through November, if NOW is the right time to list your home on the market?

Maybe you have some hesitations about listing your home, with the upcoming holidays. Perhaps you stress at the thought of putting your home up for sale and the idea of sitting on the market for weeks or months is overwhelming. My fiancee had this presumtion, and asked my opinion. Not to worry. It's really not as hard-pressed as you might assume! Regina Jenkins of Hickory, NC says in nicely. Read her blog below, which can be found here (members only):

Entering the market in the fall/winter means your home will have far less competition. Therefore, your home has a much better chance of being seen and sold.  It’s the old rule of supply vs. demand. By waiting for spring, when all the other potential sellers enter the market, your home becomes one of many. Potential buyers who are still searching for their next home during the fall and winter months are serious! The career lookers tend to take the winter months off.

The costs of waiting (maintenance, taxes, insurance, mortgage payments, etc.) is another factor to consider. You’ll still pay these expenses while your home is on the market for sale. Waiting to list could actually cost you more money in the long run.

Consider your reasons for wanting to sell in the first place. Maybe you’re looking to upgrade to a new home, or downsizing to a smaller space, moving forward now instead of waiting is going to not only save you money now, since home values are increasing, but it will also save you more money in the long run as you work on paying back the new mortgage loan. 

Most reports across the country, predict that over the next few years, home prices will appreciate; although the local real estate market is extremely difficult to predict. Even though interest rates remain historically low, they are still inching upwards. For example, the difference between 5% interest rate and 6% interest rate on a $100,000 mortgage loan is $22,582.25 over the course of 30 years.

By listing your home for sale now, you actually utilize the power of potential buyers who are striving to be settled into their new home before spring!
