Hobbit Cafe
Jeanne & Ralph Janisch ABR CRS Brokers, Selling Durango CO homes to good people like you! (The Durango Home Team at Keller Williams Southwest Associates)

One of our all time favorite restaurants is The Hobbit Cafe, formerly "the Hobbit Hole"

It used to be two blocks from the building I started my Real Estate career in.

Once I tried their interpretive cuisine based upon the characters from the fantasy novel " The Hobbit" I was hooked.  That was a brief 35 years ago.

Today's scrumptiosness is illustrated within....

It was wild Carribean Salmon with jerk sauce.  It came with a pineapple chutney and perfectly prepared seasonal veggies and curried rice.  The addition a chopped avacado  on top made it even more special.

It was perfection on a plate and the serving was large enough thar i ate my fill and we will both enjoy the left overs for dinner!

It seems that these folks just keep getting better at what they do.  Guess their goals are similar to those of us still aspiring to make each day, each year better than the previous.

Texas Home & Garden Show comes to Houston Texas
Robert (Bob) Gilbert, Your Katy TX Real Estate Expert (Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Anderson Properties)

Texas Home & Garden Show comes to Houston Texas

Texas Home & Garden Show will be in Houston on Saturday September 17 and Sunday September 18, 2011.  The show is being held at Reliant Center Houston Texas 77054. This year will be the 16 TH annual holding of this home show. The hours are Saturday from 10:00 AM until 8:00 Pm and on Sunday from 11: 00 AM until 6:00 PM. There is scheduled to be over 700 exhibitors covering all aspects of home and gardening. The extremely wide range of home and garden products includes Kitchens & Baths, Outdoor Living, Décor, Home Remodeling, Pools and Spas, Green Homes and living, Major Storm preparedness, landscaping and many more.

There are numerous scheduled lectures and speeches from experts in their field of knowledge. Attendees will be able to pick and choose what areas they want to attend as all aspects of home and gardening will be covered in a rather complete fashion.

Cost of the show is $9.50 per adult; senior ticket is $8.00 per ticket and Children 14 and under is FREE. Parking is stated at $10 per vehicle but the caveat is that this price could change.

One of the many benefits of living in Katy Texas area is that Houston is only about 25 miles away and Reliant Center is an easy drive on most weekends (excluding when road construction occurs). We are lucky to have home shows right here in Katy but this show is so huge and comprehensive it out does anything Katy could ever put together. If you are planning to buy a new home, remodel or change inside or outside this is the show to attend.

Additional information can be found on the show’s web site.

  1.  APPLICATION FOR RESIDENTIAL HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION Harris County Appraisal District Form 11.13 (09/11)

  1. Copy of DRIVER LICENSE or IDENTIFICATION CARD (ID) from the Texas Department of Public Safety.  The address MUST MATCH the homestead address.

Copy of Vehicle Registration Receipt The address MUST MATCH the homestead address.   If you do not have that receipt or it does not match the homestead address, a duplicate copy may be obtained by completing a Harris County Tax Office Request for Texas Motor Vehicle Information form (a copy may be obtained at any 15 Harris County Tax Office locations or downloaded by clicking here).  If you do not own a vehicle, you must complete the Non-Ownership of Motor Vehicle Affidavit (found on page 4 of the Application for Residential Homestead Exemption), sign it before a Notary Public, and attach a copy of a utility bill showing the homestead address.

The Homestead Exemption will NOT be allowed unless all the required documents show the same homestead address.  ALL THREE DOCUMENTS MUST HAVE THE SAME ADDRESS.

Linda Jamail Marshall, Broker, ABR,QSC,RECS,ACRE - Innerloop Houston, Tex (Linda Marshall,Houston Texas, Linda Marshall, Realtors®)

This is a particularly insightful as we are all going to be very happy for the economy to actually "turn the corner".  If has been hard to imagine a time again when economic activity is not artificially stimulated and manipulated.

ECONOMY 'TURNING TOWARD RECOVERY,'

DOTZOUR SAYS

By Bryan Pope, Associate Editor, Real Estate Center

Release No. 01-0910

COLLEGE STATION (Real Estate Center) - The "real economy" - economic activity that is not stimulated by tax credits - appears to be "turning the corner toward recovery," Dr. Mark Dotzour said this week while speaking at the Texas Society of CPAs Financial Institutions conference in Dallas.

Dotzour, the Real Estate Center's chief economist, said corporate profits and new orders for manufacturing have clearly rebounded.

He also said commercial real estate markets will not clear until two issues involving the U.S. banking system are resolved. First, when will the banks recognize the losses on the real estate loans in their portfolios and begin to sell the troubled assets to new buyers? And, will the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency tone down its strict limits on commercial real estate lending for commercial banks?

"As of today, there doesn't appear to be an encouraging answer to either question," Dotzour said.

When asked about this week's headlines proclaiming that the recession ended in 2009, he said he thinks such headlines are premature.

"The health of the residential and commercial real estate industries depends not on gross domestic product (GDP), but on job growth," he said. "When the economy (i.e. GDP) grows by, say, 3 percent, but productivity also grows by 3 percent, it just means that currently employed workers produced 3 percent more things. Job growth is the essential engine of growth in this country. Until we start producing jobs, it's premature to say we are out of the recession."

Dotzour will speak later this week at the IMN Distressed Commercial Real Estate Forum in New York City. The audience will include 300 investors from all over the world who have raised funds to purchase real estate in the United States.
